The Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC; "Institute for Advanced Cinematographic Studies") is a French film school, founded during World War II under the leadership of Marcel L'Herbier who was its president from 1944 to 1969. IDHEC offered training for directors and producers, cameramen, sound technicians, editors, art directors and costume designers. Film School
A film school is an educational institution dedicated to teaching aspects of filmmaking, including such subjects as film production, film theory, digital media production, and screenwriting. Nelson Pereira Dos Santos
Nelson Pereira dos Santos (22 October 1928 21 April 2018) was a Brazilian film director. He directed films such as ''Vidas secas (film), Vidas Secas'' (Barren Lives, 1963), based on the Vidas Secas, book with the same name by Brazilian writer Graciliano Ramos, and his most well-known film outside of Brazil is the black comedy ''How Tasty Was My Little Frenchman'' (1971). Pascale Ferran (; born 17 April 1960) is a French film director and screenwriter. In 2007, her film '' Lady Chatterley'' won five César Awards including Best Film, Best Cinematography and Best Adaptation. Her 2014 film '' Bird People'' was selected to compete in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Christopher Miles (19 April 1939 – 15 September 2023) was a British film director, producer and screenwriter. Personal life Christopher Miles was born in London, England, the eldest of four children to Clarice Remnant (‘Wren’), a councillor, and John Miles, a consulting engineer, whose family had been in the steel industry for several generations. The names of two railway promoters named Miles are on a plaque in Yarm commemorating the centenary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Alfonso Gumucio Dagron (born October 31, 1950) is a Bolivian writer, filmmaker, journalist, photographer and development communication specialist. Claude Miller (20 February 1942 – 4 April 2012) was a French film director, producer and screenwriter. Life and career Claude Miller was born to a Jewish family. A student at Paris' IDHEC film school from 1962 through 1963, Miller had his first practical cinematic experience while he was in uniform, serving with the ''Service Cinéma de l'Armée''. From 1965 until 1974, Miller worked in assistant and supervisory capacities for many of France's major directors, including Robert Bresson and Jean-Luc Godard. Rithy Panh (; born April 18, 1964) is a Cambodian documentary film director, author and screenwriter. The French-schooled director's films focus on the aftermath of the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia. His works are from an authoritative viewpoint, because his family were expelled from Phnom Penh in 1975 by the Khmer Rouge. Omar Amiralay (; 20 October 1944 – 5 February 2011) was a Syrian documentary film director and civil society activist. He is noted for the political criticism in his films, and played a prominent role in the events of the Damascus Spring of 2000. Life and work Amiralay was born in Damascus on 20 October 1944. Theodoros "Theo" Angelopoulos (; (27 April 1935 – 24 January 2012) was a Greek filmmaker, screenwriter and film producer. He dominated the Greek art film industry from 1975 on, and Angelopoulos was one of the most influential and widely respected filmmakers in the world. He started making films in 1967. In the 1970s he made a series of political films about modern Greece.
