The Institut des cultures arabes et méditerranéennes (Institute for Arab and Mediterranean Cultures (ICAM)) is an association and Geneva cultural center for the promotion of Arab and Mediterranean cultures in Switzerland. History Founded in 2013 by former maire of Geneva, Patrice Mugny and the Lebanese-Sudanese bookseller Alain Bittar, the aim of the institute is to promote the cultures of the Arab world and to establish an intercultural exchange between Switzerland and the Arab world. Supported by the Canton of Geneva and the city government, the cultural center promotes as an association the recognition of Arabic-speaking communities in Geneva society and its history. Rami Khalifé
Rami Khalifé (born September 25, 1981) is a French- Lebanese composer and pianist. Early life and education Khalifé was born in Beirut, Lebanon, into a family of musicians. His father is musician Marcel Khalifé and his mother is vocalist Yolla Khalifé. His brother is the percussionist Bachar Mar-Khalifé. Khalifé lived in Beirut until the age of eight when his family moved to Paris as part of a large wave of Lebanese people emigrating to France during the Lebanese Civil War. He eventually got French citizenship. In Paris, Khalifé attended the Conservatoire National de Région de Boulogne-Billancourt where he studied piano with Louis-Claude Thirion and Marie-Paule Siruguet, and later with Lebanese pianist Abd El Rahman El Bacha. Daniel Garbade
Daniel Garbade (born 1957) is a Spanish painter, illustrator, art director, property master and publisher. Born in Switzerland from Swiss-Cuban origins, Garbade is the grand-nephew of Adrien Lachenal, great-grandchild of Cuban sculptor Fernando Heydrich, grandson of Theodore Garbade and cousin of sculptor Juan Esnard Heydrich. Garbade lived in Spain from 1983 to 2011, then taking residence in his hometown Zürich, to exhibit at the Peyer Fine Art Gallery in Zürich. In 2016 he returned to Spain, living in Mascaraque, Castilla–La Mancha and gained the Spanish Citizenship in 2023. Work Garbade is one of Spanish expressionists, who turned to Pop art during the ''Movida madrileña''. His stroke is personal and minimalistic. Khalil Hamra (born 1979, Kuwait) is an Arab photojournalist based on Rafah in the Gaza Strip. In 2009, Hamra was recognized by the Overseas Press Club of America with its 2010 Robert Capa Gold Medal for his series covering the war in Gaza. Background Khalil Hamra was born in Kuwait in 1979 to Palestinian parents and raised in Qatar, Egypt and the Palestinian Territories. Salah Taher
Salah Taher (1911–2007) was an Egyptian painter. He worked for some time as a drawing and art teacher in Al-Abaseyya High School in Alexandria. He went on to fame in the 1960s as he was appointed head of the Museum of Modern Arts. In 1962, he was appointed head of the Opera. In 1966, he joined Al-Ahram. He painted more than 35 paintings, for Al-Ahram that decorate the walls of its building. Overall, he painted 15000 paintings and held more than 80 art fairs for his work in Egypt, Venice, New York City, San Francisco, Geneva, Beirut, Kuwait and Jeddah. He also participated in 67 collective fairs in Egypt. Towhidi Tabari
Towhidi Tabari (, Mazandarani: توحیدی طبری Tawhidi Tabari ; born 15 June 1964) is an Iranian artist. He is a member of the Society of Iranian Calligraphists, International Association of Art, La Maison des Artistes de France and of the Plastic Arts Center of the Ministry of Culture of Iran. He joined Mujahideen in 2014. Biography He started learning calligraphy at the age of 14, with Mohammad Zaman Ferasat and Mehdi Fallah Moghadam in Babol.
