Imprint Records
Imprint Records, originally known as Veritas Music Entertainment, was an American record label established in July 1995 that specialized in country music. The label was disestablished in 1997. History Roy Wunsch, a former CEO of Sony Music Nashville, founded the label in 1994 with Bud Schaetzle. Imprint was the first independent country record label to be listed as a publicly traded company on NASDAQ. Its first release was Gretchen Peters' 1996 disc ''The Secret of Life (album), The Secret of Life''. Peters, The GrooveGrass Boyz, Bob Woodruff (singer), Bob Woodruff and Jeff Wood (singer), Jeff Wood charted singles for the label between 1996 and 1997, with the latter two also releasing albums. The GrooveGrass Boyz had the most commercially successful release for the label, selling more than 80,000 copies of a country version of "Macarena (song), Macarena". Al Anderson (NRBQ), Al Anderson of NRBQ and Canadian country singer Charlie Major also recorded one album each for the label. ... Macarena (song)
"Macarena" is a song by Spanish pop duo Los del Río, originally recorded for their 1993 album '' A mí me gusta''. A dance remix by the electropop group Fangoria was a success in Spain, and a soundalike cover version by Los del Mar became popular in Canada. Another remix by Miami-based producers the Bayside Boys, who added a section with English lyrics and expanded its popularity, initially peaked at 45 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in late 1995. The Bayside Boys mix enjoyed a significant revival the following year when it re-entered the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and reached No. 1 for 14 weeks between August and November 1996. Its resurgence was aided by a dance craze that became a cultural phenomenon throughout the latter half of 1996 and early 1997. Charlie Major
Charles Bernard Major (born December 31, 1954) is a Canadian country music artist. He has recorded seven studio albums and released more than twenty singles. In 2019 he was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. Musical career Born in Aylmer, Quebec, Charlie Major knew he wanted to be a musician since he was 19 years old. NRBQ
NRBQ is an American rock band founded by Terry Adams (piano), Steve Ferguson (guitar) and Joey Spampinato (bass). Originally the "New Rhythm and Blues Quintet", the group was formed circa 1965. Adams disbanded it for a time, and the group re-formed in 1967. The quartet is known for its live performances, containing a high degree of spontaneity and levity, and blending rock, pop, jazz, blues and Tin Pan Alley styles. From 1974 to 1994, the band included pianist Adams, bassist Spampinato, guitarist Al Anderson, and drummer Tom Ardolino. This is considered the classic lineup of the group. Its current membership includes Adams, bassist Casey McDonough, guitarist Scott Ligon, and drummer John Perrin. Al Anderson (NRBQ)
Alan Gordon ("Big Al") Anderson (born July 26, 1947) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. In the 1960s, Anderson was the frontman of Connecticut-based band the Wildweeds, whose song "No Good To Cry" (written by Anderson) was a regional success in 1967. From December 1971 until December 1993, he was the lead guitarist in the band NRBQ, and released several solo albums. He also played electric guitar on Jonathan Edwards's 1973 album '' Have a Good Time for Me''. In the 1990s, Anderson's career shifted from touring musician to country music songwriter, settling in Nashville and writing hit songs for such artists as Carlene Carter, Vince Gill, Diamond Rio and Trisha Yearwood, as well as Tim McGraw's number 1 hit " The Cowboy in Me" and several album cuts. Jeff Wood (singer)
Jeffrey Scott Wood (born May 10, 1968) is an American country music artist. Wood was signed to a publishing contract in 1994, writing songs for other country artists, including " Cowboy Love", a Top 5 hit for John Michael Montgomery in 1996. He signed to a recording contract with Liberty Records later that year, but did not release anything while on the label. His debut album, ''Between the Earth and the Stars'', was released in 1997 on Imprint Records. This album produced three chart singles for Wood on the Hot Country Songs charts that year, including the No. 44-peaking "You Just Get One". Although he did not chart again after 1997, Wood continued to write songs for other artists into the 2000s, including Neal McCoy and Phil Vassar, and independently released a second album in 2008. The GrooveGrass Boyz
The GrooveGrass Boyz were an American musical group that played a mix of bluegrass, funk, and freestyle music. The group was founded as a side project by record producer and session musician Scott Rouse in 1987, after he began experimenting with dance mixes of bluegrass and country songs, eventually applying the term groovegrass to his mix of music. He then moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and joined several other country musicians and funk bass guitarist Bootsy Collins, releasing a country version of Los del Río's "Macarena" and two albums.
