Imperial De São Cristóvão
São Cristóvão (officially named Imperial de São Cristóvão) is a traditional neighborhood in the north of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. History The first inhabitants were the Tamoio Indians. After Brazil was discovered and colonized by Portugal, the Jesuits inhabited the place. In 1759, the Marquis of Pombal expelled the Jesuits, and the farms of the region were divided up to form small farms and quintas (residences located in rural properties). One of these was the ''Quinta da Boa Vista''. In 1810, King John VI of Portugal adopted the Quinta da Boa Vista as his official residence, the Paço de São Cristóvão. Around it mansions and streets were built and electric light was installed. The local aristocracy moved to the neighborhood. During the 19th century, several meters of land were reclaimed from the sea, and the swamps were drained. Carlos Latuff (born 30 November 1968) is a Brazilian political cartoonist. Estádio Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima, formerly known as Estádio Figueira de Melo or simply Figueirinha, is a multi-use stadium located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Avenida Brasil is an expressway-like thoroughfare in Rio de Janeiro. Its emergence is associated with the expansion of the city to residential areas further away from its central region during the first half of the 20th century. It started to serve as a gateway by road, hitherto hitched by sea or by the path taken by trains. The avenue that was linked to Petrópolis in 1941 became the first federal highway (BR-01) in 1948. Paço de São Cristóvão (; ; also known as Palácio Imperial or Palácio Imperial de São Cristóvão) was an imperial palace located in the Quinta da Boa Vista park in the Imperial Neighbourhood of São Cristóvão, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
