Ilona Szabó De Carvalho
Ilona Szabó de Carvalho (born May 31, 1978) is a Brazilian political scientist, civic entrepreneur. She is a co-founder and president of the Igarapé Institute, an independent think-and-do tank focused on human, digital and climate security. In 2020, Szabó was the only Brazilian included on Prospect Magazine's list "The world's top 50 thinkers 2020 Her position among the top 50 was later revealed to be fifth place. Disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR), or disarmament, demobilisation, repatriation, reintegration and resettlement (DDRRR) are strategies used as a component of peace processes, and is generally the strategy employed by all UN Peacekeeping Operations following civil wars. Definition Disarmament means the physical removal of the means of combat from ex-belligerents (weapons, ammunition, etc.). Demobilization means the disbanding of armed groups. Reintegration means the process of reintegrating former combatants into civilian society, reducing the number of people immediately ready to engage in armed combat. 2005 Brazilian Firearms And Ammunition Referendum
On 23 October 2005, Brazil held a country-wide referendum on article 35 of the Disarmament Statute to determine whether to approve or disapprove the article, which states in full, "The sale of firearms and ammunition is prohibited in the entire national territory, except to those entities provided in article 6 of this Law."
