Ilija Mitić
Ilija Mitić (Serbian Cyrillic: Илија Митић; July 19, 1940 – September 2, 2023) was a professional soccer player. Born in Yugoslavia, he represented the United States internationally. Career Mitić played with Partizan with whom he won the Yugoslav First League title three times. Earning two under-21 caps, he later joined OFK Beograd. Mitić signed with the Oakland Clippers of the newly formed National Professional Soccer League in 1967, won the league title, and was named to the NPSL's ''Best XI'' team. In the off-season, the NPSL merged with the United Soccer Association to form the NASL. With the Clippers he was the NASL's third leading scorer in 1968 and again a ''Best XI'' selection. Mitić joined the Dallas Tornado as the Clippers folded and was named a ''Best XI'' for the third consecutive year in 1969. Serbian Cyrillic Alphabet
The Serbian Cyrillic alphabet (, ), also known as the Serbian script, (, ), is a standardized variation of the Cyrillic script used to write the Serbian language. It originated in medieval Serbia and was significantly reformed in the 19th century by the Serbian philologist and linguist Vuk Karadžić. The Serbian Cyrillic alphabet is one of the two official scripts used to write modern standard Serbian, the other being Gaj's Latin alphabet. Karadžić based his reform on the earlier 18th-century Slavonic-Serbian script. The San Jose Earthquakes are an American professional association football, soccer club based in San Jose, California. The Earthquakes compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference (MLS), Western Conference. In early 1975, the North American Soccer League (1968–84), North American Soccer League hosted its first league-wide indoor soccer tournament over the course of seven weeks. All but four NASL teams participated. Overview Fifteen teams comprised the league with the Los Angeles Aztecs winning the championship in a penalty kick shootout over the Miami Toros. Changes from the previous season Rules changes The league decided to do away with tie games. If a match was tied after 90 minutes, the teams would go directly to a standard penalty shootout with no extra time played. The outcome would appear in the standings as a 'tie-win'. The tie-winner would gain three points, plus goals in regulation, while the loser of the tie-breaker received no points, except for regulation goals. Statistics of North American Soccer League in season 1973. This was the 6th season of the NASL. Overview Nine teams took part in the league with the Philadelphia Atoms winning the championship. During the season, Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz from Vera Cruz, Mexico, played each of the nine NASL clubs in exhibition games that counted in the league's final standings. The 1973 season would be the last season in which games from non-league clubs counted in league standings. A week before the NASL Final 1973, commissioner Phil Woosnam announced that no team in the league made a profit during the season. The 1969 North American Soccer League season was the second season of the North American Soccer League, the top division in US soccer in 1969. Five teams competed in the league's 2nd season. The season was divided into two parts; the International Cup and the regular season. The Kansas City Spurs won the International Cup. The Kansas City Spurs also won the NASL championship by finishing at the top of the table in the regular season. For the second straight year the team with the best winning percentage (Atlanta) did not win the premiership due to the NASL's points system. The 1968 North American Soccer League season was the 56th season of FIFA-sanctioned soccer in the United States and Canada, and the 1st with a national first-division league with the inaugural season of the NASL. The NASL was formed this year as a merger between the former top division soccer leagues, the United Soccer Association along with the National Professional Soccer League. In the inaugural year, the Atlanta Chiefs were the champions, by winning the NASL Final 3–0, in a two-game aggregate over the San Diego Toros. While the Chiefs were the champions for the season, the premiers for this season were the Toros, who obtained the highest point total. Overview 17 teams competed in this inaugural season, and the Atlanta Chiefs won the championship. The United Soccer Association (USA) was a professional association football, soccer league featuring teams based in the United States and Canada.
