Ileana Mălăncioiu
Ileana Mălăncioiu (born January 23, 1940) is a contemporary Romanian poet, essayist, journalist, dissident, and activist. She has been a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy since 2013. Early life and education Mălăncioiu was born in 1940 in the village of Godeni, in the commune of the same name. Of her birth, she later said, "I was the second daughter born to my parents, and I was not received with much joy. They had expected a boy." After graduating from the Girls' High School in Câmpulung in 1957, she originally trained as an accountant, then studied at the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Philosophy. She graduated in 1968 with a thesis on Lucian Blaga, then went on to obtain a doctor of philosophy from the university in 1977, writing her doctoral thesis on "Tragic Guilt ( Greek Tragedies, Shakespeare, Dostoevsky, Kafka)." ''Luceafărul'' (Romanian popular name of the planet Venus) was a Romanian-language literary and cultural magazine that appeared in three series: 1902-1914 and 1919-1920; 1934-1939; and 1941-1945. Another magazine by this name has been published by the Writers' Union of Romania since 1958. The magazine was first published in Budapest, Hungary from 1902 to 1906. Octavian C. Tăslăuanu became the director of the magazine in 1904, and subsequently moved its publishing to Sibiu (then also in Hungary) from 1906 to 1914. The final issue in this format was published on 16 June 1914. The magazine was briefly re-launched from Bucharest, Romania, and ran from January 1919 to April 1920. Dan Duțescu
Dan Duțescu (21 October 1918 – 26 September 1992) was a professor of English language and literature at the University of Bucharest, and a member of the Romanian Writers' Union. A graduate of the School of English Studies of the University of Bucharest's Department of Letters, he taught Romanian at the University of London (1964–1965) and the University of Cambridge (1971–1973). He had a daughter, Taina Duțescu-Coliban, a linguist and mountain climber who went missing in 1992 while trying to climb Mount Dhaulaghiri. The Writers' Union of Romania (), founded in March 1949, is a professional association of writers in Romania. It also has a subsidiary in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova. Animafilm
Animafilm is a Romanian animation studio, founded in Bucharest in 1964 after Ion Popescu-Gopo won numerous awards at international festivals. After the fall of the communist regime in 1989, the institution was reorganized as a joint-stock company by Romanian Government Decision no. 53/1991 on the establishment of autonomous film companies and commercial companies in the field of cinematography, and at the end of October 2006 Animafilm S.A. was transferred to AVAS for privatization. Currently, the state is the majority shareholder and holds 70% of the company's shares, which are subordinated to the Ministry of Culture. Televiziunea Română (), more commonly referred to as TVR , is the short name for Societatea Română de Televiziune ("Romanian Television Society"; SRTV), the Romanian public television. Gabriel Liiceanu
Gabriel Liiceanu (; b. May 23, 1942, Râmnicu Vâlcea) is a Romanian philosopher. He graduated from the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Philosophy in 1965, and from Faculty of Classical Languages in 1973. He earned a doctorate in philosophy at the University of Bucharest in 1976. Between 1965 and 1975, Liiceanu was a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy, and between 1975 and 1989 at the Institute of Art History.
