"" (; ) is a patriotic song written by Goffredo Mameli and set to music by Michele Novaro in 1847, currently used as the national anthem of Italy. It is best known among Italians as the "" (; ), after the author of the lyrics, or "" (; ), from its incipit, opening line. The piece, in Bar (music), 4/4 time signature and B-flat major key, has six strophes, and a refrain sung after each. The sixth group of verses, almost never performed, recalls the first strophe's text. The song was very popular during unification of Italy, Italian unification and the following decades. However, after the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy, Kingdom of Italy's 1861 proclamation, the Republicanism, republican and Jacobin (politics), Jacobin connotations of "Fratelli d'Italia" were difficult to reconcile with the new state's monarchic constitution. An autograph or holograph is a manuscript or document written in its author's or composer's hand. The House of Savoy (, ) is a royal house (formally a dynasty) of Franco-Italian origin that was established in 1003 in the historical region of Savoy, which was originally part of the Kingdom of Burgundy and now lies mostly within southeastern France. Anton Giulio Barrili (14 December 1836 in Savona – 14 August 1908 in Carcare) was an Italian novelist. He was educated for the legal profession, which he abandoned in Genoa for journalism. He was a volunteer in the campaign of 1859 and served with Garibaldi in 1866 (Austro-Prussian War, Third Italian War of Independence) and 1867. From 1865 onwards he published a large number of books of fiction, which had wide popularity, his work being commonly compared with that of Victor Cherbuliez. Some of the best of the later ones are (1866), (1875), and (1877). His appeared in 1899. Barrili also wrote two plays and various volumes of criticism, including (1890).
