Iga Świątek
Iga Natalia Świątek (; born 31 May 2001) is a Polish professional tennis player. She has been ranked as the List of WTA number 1 ranked singles tennis players, world No. 1 in women’s singles by the Women's Tennis Association, Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for 125 total weeks. Świątek has won 22 WTA Tour-level singles titles, including five Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, major titles: four at the French Open and one at the US Open (tennis), US Open. She has also won the 2023 WTA Finals – Singles, 2023 WTA Finals and ten WTA 1000 titles. Świątek is the first Pole to win a major singles title. 2019 French Open
The 2019 French Open was a Grand Slam (tennis), major tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, from 26 May to 9 June, comprising singles, doubles and mixed doubles play. Junior and wheelchair tournaments were also scheduled. Rafael Nadal was the two-time defending champion in men's singles and won his record 12th French Open singles title. Simona Halep was the defending champion in women's singles, but lost in the quarterfinals; the title was won by Ashleigh Barty. 2019 US Open – Women's Doubles
Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ashleigh Barty and Victoria Azarenka in the final, 7–5, 7–5, to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2019 US Open. It was both players' first major doubles title. Barbora Strýcová retained the WTA no. 1 doubles ranking after the tournament. Kristina Mladenovic was also in contention for the top ranking at the start of the tournament. Barty and CoCo Vandeweghe were the defending champions, but chose not to participate together. Barty played alongside Azarenka and lost in the final. Vandeweghe teamed up with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, but lost in the first round to Magda Linette and Iga Świątek. WTA 1000
The WTA 1000 tournaments are a category of tennis tournaments on the WTA Tour, governed by the Women's Tennis Association. The old WTA Premier Mandatory and Premier 5 tournaments merged into a single highest tier implemented in the 2021 schedule reorganization. Until 2024, only four of the nine WTA 1000 tournaments were mandatory, when the category expanded to ten mandatory tournaments. When launched in 2021, the prize money for winning a WTA 1000 tournament was approximately $1,000,000. This has since risen to almost $9,000,000 at some tournaments as of 2024. The ranking points awarded to the winners of these tournaments are 1,000. This compares to 2,000 points for winning a Grand Slam tournament ("major"), up to 1,500 points for winning the WTA Finals, 500 points for winning a WTA 500 tournament, and 250 for winning a WTA 250 tournament. The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year. In doubles, a Grand Slam may be achieved as a team or as an individual with different partners.
