ITV News Central
''ITV News Central'' is a British television news service for The East and West Midlands, broadcast and produced by ITV Central. History Launched on Friday 1 January 1982, replacing ''ATV Today'', ''Central News'' was initially a pan-regional service based in Birmingham airing a 6pm programme on weeknights alongside shorter weekday bulletins after ITN's ''News at One'' and '' News at Ten''. During the rest of the decade, the region was eventually broken up into three sub-regions, receiving their own news service. Separate services for the West and East of the region were planned to begin from day one, but an industrial dispute over the launch of the East Midlands service – and the opening of new studios in Nottingham – resulted in the entire region continuing to receive a sole pan-regional programme from Birmingham. Sameena Ali-Khan
Sameena Ali-Khan (born 30 December 1967) is a British infotainment, media personality who is known as a television presenter, journalist and news presenter, newsreader. She is also a published author. Since commencing her media career in 1997 for the BBC, Ali-Khan has worked in various areas of broadcasting. Upon moving from the BBC to the ITV Central, ITV network in 2005, she has become a popular recognised face at ITV Central, as one of the main presenters for the ITV News Central programmes. Ali-Khan has won numerous awards during her broadcasting career, including three RTS Midlands Best Screen Personality Awards in 2010, 2014 and 2015, for her work on ITV News Central. ''The West Tonight'' is a regional news programme that served the West of England, produced by ITV West. History The launch of Harlech Television in May 1968 led to the launch of a full half-hour evening news programme, ''Report'', broadcast to South Wales and the West of England. Previously, former ITV franchise holder for Wales and the West of England TWW had provided short evening bulletins known as ''TWW Reports'', presented jointly from studios in Cardiff and Bristol, where the station ran a joint news operation covering the two areas. The opening of a colour service from the Mendip transmitter in May 1970 led to the creation of a separate HTV West service and the launch of a full evening news programme for the region, ''Report West''. ITV Wales and West, previously known as Harlech Television (HTV), was an ITV (TV network), ITV franchisee in the United Kingdom until 31 December 2013, licensed to broadcast by the regulator Ofcom. There is no channel, past or present, named "ITV Wales and West". The licence relates to a "dual region", meaning that the franchise area was divided into two sub-regions, Wales and the West of England, each of which had to be served by distinct and separate ITV programme services, as more fully defined within the licence.
