The Hilton Mexico City Reforma is a 24-story, 457-room hotel on Avenida Juárez, close to the Alameda Central, in Mexico City, Mexico. Description The hotel opened on February 27, 2003 as the Sheraton Centro Historico Hotel & Convention Center. It was designed by Pascal Arquitectos, developed by Inmobiliaria Interpres and constructed from 2001–03, with Proarquitectura as the main contractor and Aguilar Ingenieros as the structural engineer. It was the first tall building to be constructed in the area since the 1985 Mexico City earthquake, The concrete structure is tall, with 24 stories above ground and 2 below. It has 457 rooms and a total floor area of , with a building footprint of . It has a helipad on the roof, and a convention centre with a capacity of 5,000 people. Avenida Juárez is a street in the Historic Center of Mexico City flanking the south side of the centuries-old Alameda Central park. Alameda Central
Alameda Central is a public urban park in downtown Mexico City. Created in 1592, the Alameda Central is the oldest public park in the Americas. It is located in Cuauhtémoc borough, adjacent to the Palacio de Bellas Artes, between Juárez Avenue and Hidalgo Avenue. Alameda Central can be accessed by Metro Bellas Artes. Description The Alameda Central park is a green garden with paved paths and decorative fountains and statues, and is frequently the center of civic events. The area used to be an Aztec marketplace. On 11 January 1592, Viceroy Luis de Velasco II ordered the creation of a public green space for the city's residents. The name comes from the Spanish word ''álamo'', which means poplar tree, that were planted here. This park was part of the viceroy's plan to develop what was, at that time, the western edge of the city. 1985 Mexico City Earthquake
The 1985 Mexico City earthquake struck in the early morning of 19 September at 07:17:50 (CST) with a moment magnitude of 8.0 and a maximal Mercalli intensity of IX (''Violent''). The event caused serious damage to the Greater Mexico City area and the deaths of at least 5,000 people. The sequence of events included a foreshock of magnitude 5.2 that occurred the prior May, the main shock on 19 September, and two large aftershocks. The first of these occurred on 20 September with a magnitude of 7.5 and the second occurred seven months later on 30 April 1986 with a magnitude of 7.0. They were located off the coast along the Middle America Trench, more than away, but the city suffered major damage due to its large magnitude and the ancient lake bed that Mexico City sits on.
