Hockey Queensland
Hockey Queensland is the governing body for the sport of hockey in Queensland, Australia. It is responsible for the administration of intrastate competitions, state representative teams, officials and the financial position of the sport. It's located in the Queensland State Hockey Centre in Colmslie, a suburb south of Brisbane. History On 11 November 1995, the Queensland Women's Hockey Association merged with Queensland Men's Hockey Association ending 75 years of independent operation and created Hockey Queensland. The combined Hockey Queensland structure boasts gender equity as well as increased and maintained funding levels to men's and women's programs. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Queensland State Hockey Centre
Queensland State Hockey Centre is a multi-purpose stadium in Brisbane, Australia. It is currently used for field hockey and is home to the Brisbane Blaze who play in Hockey One. Facilities The Queensland State Hockey Centre includes two international standard water based synthetic hockey fields with international standard lighting. There is a covered grandstand, an electronic scoreboard, multiple change rooms, multiple large grass playing fields with lighting, a first-aid room. Morningside is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Morningside had a population of 10,481. Geography It is located east of the CBD, and borders Cannon Hill, Norman Park, Seven Hills, Balmoral, and Hawthorne. There are many older-style weatherboard and chamferboard homes in this area as well as modern units and townhouses. History Morningside is said to be named after a local estate belonging to David Longlands. The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is an elite sports institute set up in 1991 by the Queensland Government to support athletes in the state of Queensland. The Queensland Blades are a men's Australian field hockey team, representing Queensland in the Australian Hockey League. The Blades have been the most successful team to play in recent years.
