Highgate Hill is a riverside inner southern suburb of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Highgate Hill had a population of 6,194 people. Geography Highgate Hill is south of the Brisbane CBD on the Brisbane River, and approximately 1 kilometer (0.6 mi) east of Hill End. The topography of the suburb is undulating hills, the highest being the hill () also called Highgate Hill at above sea level. Together with West End and South Brisbane, it occupies a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the Brisbane River. From the central ridge occupied by Dornoch Terrace, land slopes steeply down towards the river to the south and north towards low-lying land of the two adjacent suburbs. Nemehiah Bartley (10 May 1830 – 10 July 1894) was an Australian merchant primarily active in the Colony of Queensland. He arrived in Australia from England at the age of 19, and also lived for periods in Tasmania, Victoria, and New South Wales. His diaries and published books of his reminiscences provide detailed observations on colonial life in Australia and its personalities. ''Pogona'' is a genus of reptiles containing six lizard species which are often known by the common name bearded dragons. The name "bearded dragon" refers to the underside of the throat (or "beard") of the lizard, which can turn black and gain weight for a number of reasons, most often as a result of stress, or if they feel threatened.
