''heute-journal'' (roughly ''Today's Journal'') is a television news magazine broadcast on ZDF, a national German television network. History The programme premiered on 2 January 1978 as a late weekday evening 20 minute program. Originally, it was broadcast at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and at 10 p.m. on Fridays. It has been broadcast at 9:45 p.m. since 1 January 1984.It is common for German television programs to be scheduled at 15 and 45 minutes after the hour. See thZDF schedule In 1991, the running time of the programme was extended to 30 minutes. 15-minute editions were added on Saturdays (in 1992) and Sundays (in 2000). The running time of the programme is sometimes extended to one hour, to cover special events or particularly important stories. Marietta Slomka
Marietta Slomka (born 20 April 1969 in Cologne) is a German journalist who has been the anchor of TV news show ''heute-journal'' since 2001. Early life and education The daughter of a teacher, Slomka studied international politics and economics at the universities of Cologne and Kent. In 1988, she completed an internship at Roussel Uclaf in Paris. Career After university, Slomka worked from 1991 to 1996 for Cologne Institute for Economic Research (IW). In parallel, she started her career in journalism at local newspaper ''Kölnische Rundschau'' in 1994. As television journalist, Slomka has been working on German broadcaster ZDF since 1998. Claus-Detlev Walter Kleber (born 2 September 1955 in Reutlingen) is a German journalist and former lawyer. He anchored ''heute-journal'', an evening news program on ZDF, one of Germany's two major public TV stations. He is also known for his expertise in United States politics and German-American relations, as evidenced by his 2005 bestseller ''Amerikas Kreuzzüge'' ("America's Crusades"). Early life Claus Kleber was born in Reutlingen, Germany. He attended the Otto Hahn Gymnasium in Bergisch Gladbach, completing his ''Abitur'' in 1974. During his schooling, Kleber freelanced as a local reporter for the newspaper ''Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger''. Dunja Hayali (born 6 June 1974) is a German journalist and television presenter for public broadcaster ''ZDF''. Early life and education Hayali is the daughter of Christianity in Iraq, Iraqi Christians from Mosul. Her mother is Chaldean Catholic Church, Chaldean Catholic, and her father is Syriac Orthodox Church, Syrian Orthodox. Hayali herself was a Catholic and was an altar server when she was young. Nina Ruge (born 24 August 1956 in Munich) is a German journalist, TV presenter and author. Early life and education Ruge is the daughter of an engineering professor and visited the Ina-Seidel-Schule in Braunschweig. Her sister Annette is an aeromedical doctor at the European Aviation Safety Agency in Cologne. After finishing high school at the age of 17 she studied biology and German language and literature at the TU Braunschweig to become a teacher. She passed her final exams with distinction.
