Henry Conwell Wood
Henry Conwell Wood (July 1840 -18 June 1926) was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Early life Wood was born in Bellary, India, to Herbert Wood and his wife, Maria-Louisa (née Conwell) and was educated at Cheltenham College. Pastoral life Wood arrived in Queensland around 1861 and entered into partnership with John McConnel to take up Durundur Station, near Woodford. Wood imported the first Hereford cattle, which to be a successful breed in Queensland. Public life Wood was appointed to the Queensland Legislative Council in April 1886 and resigned in December 1902. He had strong political views, and made his presence felt in the chamber. He was Secretary of the Queensland National Association and a member of the Caboolture Divisional Board. Personal life In June 1888 Wood married Margaret Ann Mason in Brisbane. John McConnel
John McConnel (3 October 1806 – 27 January 1899) was pastoralist and politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Pastoralist On 1 January 1851 McConnell joined in partnership with his brother David and they purchased Durundur Station, previously belonging to the Archer brothers, who moved to the Burnett region. In 1851 the McConnels owned 400 cattle and 10,000 sheep on their Brisbane River Valley properties. Caboolture Divisional Board
The Shire of Caboolture was a local government area located in the Australian state of Queensland on the northern urban fringe of the capital, Brisbane, and south of the Sunshine Coast. The Shire covered an area of , of which approximately one-quarter was urban, and existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 2008, when it amalgamated with the City of Redcliffe and Shire of Pine Rivers to form the Moreton Bay Region. The Hereford is a British breed of beef cattle originally from Herefordshire in the West Midlands of England. It has spread to many countries – there are more than five million purebred Hereford cattle in over fifty nations worldwide. The breed was first exported from Britain in 1817, initially to Kentucky. The Queensland Legislative Council was the upper house of the parliament in the Australian state of Queensland. It was a fully nominated body which first took office on 1 May 1860. It was abolished by the Constitution Amendment Act 1921, which took effect on 23 March 1922. Consequently, the Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the only unicameral state Parliament in Australia. Cattle (''Bos taurus'') are large, domesticated, cloven-hooved, herbivores. They are a prominent modern member of the subfamily Bovinae and the most widespread species of the genus ''Bos''.
