Hardwired (novel)
''Hardwired'' is a 1986 cyberpunk science fiction novel by American writer Walter Jon Williams. It was nominated for the 1987 Locus Award. Plot summary The Orbital Corporations won the Rock War, and now they control America. Cowboy, one of the protagonists, is a smuggler who can control an armored hovertank using a neural interface. The other protagonist, Sarah, is a prostitute turned mercenary assassin; she and Cowboy end up teaming up to fight the Orbitals. Ex-fighter pilot Cowboy, "hardwired" via skull sockets directly to his lethal electronic hardware, teams up with Sarah, an equally cyborized gun-for-hire, to make a last stab at independence. A kludge or kluge () is a workaround or quick-and-dirty solution that is clumsy, inelegant, inefficient, difficult to extend and hard to maintain. Wired communication refers to the transmission of data over a wire-based communication technology. Wired communication is also known as wireline communication. Examples include telephone networks, cable television or internet access, and fiber-optic communication. Most wired networks use Ethernet cables to transfer data between connected PCs. Grow Up And Blow Away
''Grow Up and Blow Away'' is the third studio album by the Canadian indie rock band Metric. The album was recorded in 2001, but its release was delayed for years due to their record label, Restless Records, being purchased by Rykodisc. As the years passed, the band's sound changed to the point where they no longer felt the album would be what the fans expected to hear, so Metric recorded a completely new album, ''Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?'', and released that instead. Last Gang Records later purchased the rights to the album and released it on June 26, 2007. Compared with the 2001 version, the songs "London Halflife" and "Soft Rock Star" (Jimmy vs. Joe mix) from the 2001 EP ''Static Anonymity'' were added. ''Hard Wired'' is the eighth full-length studio album by Front Line Assembly, released in 1995. Release ''Hard Wired'' was the band's first release for Off Beat. It has sold at least 50,000 copies worldwide. The limited edition with 5,000 copies was sold out in two weeks. Coinciding with Front Line Assembly's tour through Europe in support of ''Improvised Electronic Device'', ''Hard Wired'' was re-released in August 2011 by German label Black Rain Records as limited edition picture vinyl with a circulation of 500. It contains only seven songs and lacks the tracks "Mortal", "Modus Operandi" and "Transparent Species".
