Hanoverian Southern Railway
The Hanoverian Southern Railway (German: ''Hannöversche Südbahn'') is a historical term but it is still a common name for the line between Hanover and Kassel. It is a German main line railway in Lower Saxony and is one of the oldest lines in Germany, opened between 1853 and 1856 by the Royal Hanoverian State Railways. History Its northern sections from Hanover to Alfeld (opened in 1853) and Alfeld to Göttingen (opened in 1854) are part of a once important north-south route that continues in operation. The southern section, known as the Dransfeld Ramp (German: ''Dransfelder rampe'') from Göttingen to Hannoverian Münden opened on 8 May 1856 and closed in stages between 1980 and 1995. Hannover Hauptbahnhof (German for ''Hanover main station'') is the main railway station for the city of Hanover in Lower Saxony, Germany. The railway junction is one of the 21 stations listed as a railway Category 1 station by DB Station&Service. It is also the most important public transport hub of the region of Hanover and it is served regional and S-Bahn services. The station has six platforms with twelve platform tracks, and two through tracks without platforms. Hanover–Würzburg High-speed Railway
The Hanover–Würzburg high-speed railway was the first of several high-speed railway lines for InterCityExpress traffic that were built in Germany. While technically starting in the village of Rethen and ending at Würzburg Hauptbahnhof, it is a de facto link between Hanover and Würzburg, with stops at Göttingen, Kassel, and Fulda. Early construction started in 1973, the line opening fully in 1991. At in length, it is the longest newly built rail line in Germany, and its construction costs are estimated to be about DM 40 million (€20.45 million) per kilometre. Alfeld is a town in the state of Lower Saxony, Germany. Located on the Leine river, it is the second biggest city in the district of Hildesheim in southern Lower Saxony and part of the Metropolitan region Hannover-Braunschweig-Göttingen-Wolfsburg. Elze–Löhne Railway
The Elze–Löhne railway is a non-electrified line from the town of Elze in the German state of Lower Saxony via Hamelin and Rinteln to Löhne in North Rhine-Westphalia. It runs between the Weser and the Weser hills from Hamelin to Bad Oeynhausen and as a result this section is also called the Weser Railway (german: Weserbahn). The line was previously part of the main route for freight from Berlin to Amsterdam via Hildesheim, Elze, Löhne, Osnabrück, Rheine and Almelo. Elze–Bodenburg Railway
The Elze–Bodenburg railway was a branch line of length in the Leine Uplands. Its main intermediate station was Gronau. The line is also known as the "Lower Saxon Alme Valley Railway" (''niedersächsische Almetalbahn). History and operation The section from Elze, a station on the Hanoverian Southern Railway, to Gronau was opened on 1 July 1900. On 7 November 1901 the section via Sibbesse to Bodenburg was opened which provided railway access to the southern parts of Hildesheimer Wald. The line connected in Bodenburg to the Lamme Valley Railway from Groß Düngen whose section between Bad Salzdetfurth and Bodenburg had been opened on the same day. Elze
Elze () is a town in the district of Hildesheim, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the river Leine, approximately west of Hildesheim. The municipality of Elze also comprises the villages of ''Esbeck, Mehle, Sehlde, Sorsum, Wittenburg'' and ''Wülfingen''. Leine
The Leine (; Old Saxon ''Lagina'') is a river in Thuringia and Lower Saxony, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Aller and the Weser and is long. The river's source is located close to the town of Leinefelde in Thuringia. About downriver, the river enters Lower Saxony and runs northwards. Important towns along its course, from upstream to downstream, are Göttingen, Einbeck, Freden, Alfeld, and Gronau, before the river enters Hanover, the largest city on its banks. Nordstemmen Station
Nordstemmen station is located on the Hanover–Göttingen railway and the Hildesheim–Löhne railway in the town of Nordstemmen in the German state of Lower Saxony. The station building was built by Conrad Wilhelm Hase (1853–1854), but it has not been used by Deutsche Bundesbahn or Deutsche Bahn since 1977. Since 2011, the Hildesheim contractor Dirk Bettels has tried in vain to acquire and rehabilitate the grade II heritage-listed station building with public funds. Construction work begun by Dirk Bettels was discontinued at the end of March 2013 because no contract had been signed by Deutsche Bahn.
