Hallett Power Station
Hallett Power Station is located in Canowie, in the Mid North of South Australia, located about north of Adelaide. It was commissioned in 2001 and opened in 2002. It was built by AGL Energy, but was sold in 2007, and is currently operated by EnergyAustralia. It has capacity of approximately , and connects to the National Electricity Grid. It contains 12 gas turbine generators. The powerstation is fuelled by natural gas drawn from the Moomba Adelaide Pipeline System, and can also operate from a back-up supply of diesel in the event of a failure of the gas supply. It was built using second-hand gas turbines. Canowie, South Australia
Canowie is a sparsely populated farming and grazing locality in the Mid North region of South Australia in the Hundred of Anne, County of Victoria. It is mainly sited on a relatively featureless plain, with the north-south trending Browne Hill Range to the west. A government sponsored town was surveyed in 1865 but it failed to thrive and so virtually nothing remains of the township today. The current boundaries of the locality were created in 2000. The locality is on the former pastoral leases of Canowie Station. It is believed that the Canowie station derived its name from Kanya-Owie, the Aboriginal name for a rock waterhole at the station homestead. The town was positioned on a major north-south travelling stock route where an ephemeral creek, Cundowie Creek, provided water for a public livestock pound. Mid North
The Mid North is a region of South Australia, north of the Adelaide Plains and south of the Far North and the outback. It is generally accepted to extend from Spencer Gulf east to the Barrier Highway, including the coastal plain, the southern part of the Flinders Ranges, and the northern part of the Mount Lofty Ranges. Moomba Adelaide Pipeline System
The Moomba Adelaide Pipeline System is a natural gas pipeline delivering gas from the Cooper Basin gas wells near Moomba to Adelaide, with spur pipelines to Angaston and Whyalla. It can also receive gas from Southeastern Queensland through the QSN Link pipeline owned by APA Group. The pipeline was developed by the Government of South Australia and commenced operation on 28 November 1969. It was privatised in 1995 and bought by Queensland Investment Corporation, the parent company of Epic Energy in April 2013. The pipeline system now consists of a total of of high pressure gas pipelines, including of laterals. The main lateral spurs are the one to Port Pirie and Whyalla and the one to Angaston.
