Hương Thủy (singer)
Nguyễn Thị Hương Thủy, commonly known by her stage name Hương Thủy, is a Vietnamese-language singer from southern Vietnam known for ca dao and cải lương singing. She appears on the long running Vietnamese diaspora variety show ''Paris by Night'', making her debut in '' Paris By Night 72: Tiếng Hát Từ Nhịp Tim''. She also acts in their plays and musicals. Biography Hương Thủy was born in southern Vietnam and spent her childhood living in a pagoda in Vĩnh Long, Vietnam. Growing up, her dream was to become a singer. She was an outstanding contestant and was accepted to learn in Đại Học Sân Khấu Cải Lương và Hài Kịch in Saigon. After graduating, she became a member of the "Tam Ca Phù Sa" band, then migrated to southern California, where she was introduced to Thúy Nga. Vietnamese poetry originated in the form of folk poetry and proverbs. Vietnamese poetic structures include ''Lục bát'', ''Song thất lục bát'', and various styles shared with Classical Chinese poetry forms, such as are found in Tang poetry; examples include verse forms with "seven syllables each line for eight lines," "seven syllables each line for four lines" (a type of quatrain), and "five syllables each line for eight lines." ''Tuồng cải lương'' (, Hán-Nôm: 從改良) often referred to as ''Cải lương'' (Chữ Hán: 改良), roughly "reformed theater") is a form of modern folk opera in Vietnam. ''Paris by Night'' (commonly abbreviated as ''PBN'') is a direct-to-video series featuring Vietnamese-language musical variety shows produced by Thúy Nga Productions. Hosted mainly by Nguyễn Ngọc Ngạn and Nguyễn Cao Kỳ Duyên, the series includes musical performances by modern pop stars, traditional folk songs, one-act plays, and sketch comedy. Nguyễn Ngọc Ngạn
Nguyễn Ngọc Ngạn (born 9 March 1945 in Sơn Tây in Hanoi) is a Vietnamese-Canadian writer, essayist and television personality. Ngạn was born in Sơn Tây (present-day Hanoi), but his family moved to South Vietnam when the Geneva Accords divided Vietnam in 1954. After university and service in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, Ngạn was imprisoned by the victorious communists after the fall of Saigon in 1975 and did forced labour in a re-education camp up until 1978, an experience described in his autobiography, ''The Will Of Heaven''. After his release, Ngạn escaped by boat to Malaysia in 1979. During the closing stages of the journey, storms hit the boat and knocked it over within sight of land. Ngạn's wife and child drowned and he was pulled unconscious from the water. Khánh Ly (born as Nguyễn Thị Lệ Mai; 6 March 1945 in Hanoi) is a Vietnamese-American singer. She performed many songs written by Vietnamese composer Trịnh Công Sơn and rose to fame in the 1960s.
