Høgni Mohr
Høgni Mohr (born in Tórshavn 8 October 1968) is a Faroese author and journalist. His book ''Fractura Nasi'' was the best selling book in 2017 throughout the Faroe Islands. ''Fractura Nasi'' was translated into Danish 2019 by Kirsten Brix and published bAmanda Books. Danish titleRejse for livet The novel was sold to movie production in 2018. Career Mohr has worked for newspapers in the Faroes and has been published in Danish and Icelandic national newspapers. He spent several years working as a radio and TV reporter with Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya. He has also worked for the BBC and Al Jazeera and has hosted nature programmes for Vice Media, as well as being a correspondent to the Huffington Post. His literary works are published in Faroese and Danish. Tórshavn
Tórshavn (; ; Danish language, Danish: ''Thorshavn''), usually locally referred to as simply Havn, is the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands. It is located in the southern part on the east coast of Streymoy. To the northwest of the city lies the mountain Húsareyn, and to the southwest, the Kirkjubøreyn. They are separated by the Sandá River. The city itself has a population of 14,038 (2024), and the greater urban area has a population of 23,160, including the suburbs of Hoyv%C3%ADk and Argir. The Norsemen, Norse (Scandinavians) established their parliament on the Tinganes peninsula in AD 850. Tórshavn thus became the capital of the Faroe Islands and has remained so ever since. Jógvan Isaksen
Jógvan Isaksen (born 25 August 1950 in Tórshavn) is a Faroese writer and literary historian. He is best known for his crime novels and for his book about Faroese literature (1993, in Danish). He is leader of the Faroese publication house which has its address in the Faroe Islands, though its committee is located in Copenhagen. It publishes Faroese books and is the oldest Faroese publishing house, having been founded in 1910. Biography Jógvan Isaksen is the son of Magnhild Isaksen née Olsen and Reimar Isaksen, who both come from the village of Gøta. After finishing high school in 1970 he moved to Denmark in order to study Nordic Philology at Aarhus University. He finished his MA in Scandinavian Literature Science in 1982. Eckerö Mail And Customs House
Eckerö Mail and Customs House () is a historic building in Eckerö municipality in Åland, Finland. It was built in 1828 as the most western posthouse on the Finnish side of the old mail route connecting Swedish capital Stockholm and Finnish town Turku. The building was drawn by architect Carl Ludvig Engel. Today it houses a postal museum and art gallery, and has an artist in residence program. History In 1809 Finland had been taken over by Russia and it became an autonomous Grand Duchy in the Russian Empire. The new emperors wanted to indicate their might for the Swedes, as well as other seafarers, by creating a prestigious and oversized building that was highly visible from the sea. Åland ( , ; ) is an Federacy, autonomous and Demilitarized zone, demilitarised region of Finland. Geytin
Geytin is an annual Faroese film festival in the Nordic House in Tórshavn where two Geytin film prizes are handed. The festival was established in 2012. The prizes are given to a Faroese film instructor for a short film, which is no longer than 30 minutes. The name of the Geytin-award The main prize is named after Herálvur Geyti, who was better known as ''Geytin''. Geytin travelled around the Faroe Islands in 1960s and 1970s, before cinemas or TV were common in the islands. The two film awards There are two prizes, both are handed at en event in the Nordic House. From 2012 until 2016 they were handed in December, since 2018 they have been handed in February. Astrid Andreasen
Faroe stamp 440 fish tree. Astrid Jóhanna Andreasen (born 31 July 1948 in Vestmanna, Faroe Islands) is a Faroese artist, illustrator and postage stamp designer. As a scientific illustrator, she specialises in marine animals. Andreasen grew up in Vestmanna, as the daughter of Andreas Andreasen (1906–1974), a teacher, and Daniella Andreasen, a housewife. Early in her career she produced illustrations for collections of her father's poetry. From 1968 to 1970 she studied at a vocational school in Kerteminde in Denmark to become a teacher of embroidery. In 1974 she studied to become an occupational therapist in Hellerup. In the 1970s she took a job as a therapist in Tórshavn hospital where she worked with mentally handicapped people, teaching them embroidery and other art forms. Nordic House In The Faroe Islands
The Nordic House () is a cultural institution in the Faroe Islands. Its aim is to support and promote Nordic and Faroese culture, locally and in the Nordic region. History Erlendur Patursson (1913–1986), Faroese member of the Nordic Council, brought forward the idea of a Nordic cultural house in the Faroe Islands. A Nordic competition for architects was held in 1977, where 158 architects participated. Winners were Ola Steen from Norway and Kolbrún Ragnarsdóttir from Iceland. By staying true to folklore the architects built the Nordic House to resemble an enchanting hill of elves. The building opened in Tórshavn in 1983. The Nordic House is organized as a cultural organization under the Nordic Council of Ministers. Sjúrður Skaale (born 8 March 1967) is a Faroe Islands, Faroese politician, comedian and former journalist currently serving as one of the two Faroese members of the Folketing for the Social Democratic Party (Faroe Islands), Social Democratic Party since 2011. From 2008 to 2011 he was a member of the Løgting. Faroese ( ; ) is a North Germanic languages, North Germanic language spoken as a first language by about 69,000 Faroe Islanders, of whom 21,000 reside mainly in Denmark and elsewhere. Jan Allan Müller
Jan Allan Müller (born 25 July 1969) is a retired Faroe Islands, Faroese football striker. Club career He grew up in Vágur, where he played football for VB Vágur (now called FC Suðuroy). In October 1990 he had a trial at Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles earning him a first professional contract. Later Müller moved to Denmark to play professional football, he played for the Danish clubs AC Horsens, Esbjerg fB and Svendborg fB. He had to retire early from professional football due to injuries. International career He was a member of the Faroe Islands national football team from 1988 to 1998.
