Hólmfríður Magnúsdóttir
Hólmfríður "Fríða" Magnúsdóttir (born 20 September 1984) is an Icelanders, Icelandic association football, footballer who plays as a winger (football), left winger or as an attacking midfielder. Hólmfríður was a part of Iceland women's national football team, Iceland's national team from 2003 to 2020 and represented her country at the UEFA Women's Euro 2009, 2009 and UEFA Women's Euro 2013, 2013 editions of the UEFA Women's Championship. Club career At the 2009 WPS International Draft, Hólmfríður was picked fifth by the Philadelphia Independence, one of two expansion teams entering Women's Professional Soccer (WPS). UEFA Women's Euro 2009
The 2009 UEFA Women's Championship, or just Women's Euro 2009, was played in Finland between 23 August and 10 September 2009. The host was appointed on 11 July 2006, in a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Berlin and the Finnish proposal won over the Netherlands, Dutch proposal. The UEFA Women's Championship is a regular tournament involving European national teams from countries affiliated to UEFA, the European governing body, who have qualified for the competition. The competition aims to determine which national women's team is the best in Europe. ''Morgunblaðið'' (, ''The Morning Paper'') is an Icelandic daily newspaper. ''Morgunblaðið''s website, mbl.is, is the most popular website in Iceland. It is currently the country's only daily printed newspaper and the newspaper of record. History ''Morgunblaðið'' was founded by Vilhjálmur Finsen and Ólafur Björnsson, brother of Iceland's first president, Sveinn Björnsson. Tom Nordlie
Tom Nordlie (born 2 March 1962) is a Norwegian football coach. He has managed several top Norwegian football teams. Playing career Nordlie was not a footballer himself, but he did play for the national water polo team. He has his education from the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. Managing career Nordlie is a household name in Norway, having managed several top-flight teams. He is known for introducing the concept ''kontrollert sinnsyk'', i.e. "controlledly insane". In 1998, he led Odd Grenland to promotion to the Norwegian top division, and to a respectable seventh place the next season. In 2000, he took over big club Vålerenga, but was fired after a season that led to Vålerenga's relegation from the Norwegian top division. Norwegian First Division (women)
The Norwegian First Division, also called 1. divisjon (), is the second highest division in women's football in Norway. It was founded in 1984. Between 1984 and 1995 it served as the first tier. 1. divisjon was replaced as a first tier by the Eliteserien which in turn was replaced by the Toppserien in 2000. It continued as a second tier from 1996 and onwards. First tier Between 1977 and 1983 women's league football in Norway was organized on a county and regional basis. In 1984, three of these leagues, those representing Østlandet, Vestlandet and Trøndelag, merged to form the first national league. The 2011 Women's Professional Soccer season is the third season for the WPS, the top level professional women's soccer league in the United States. The season started with the opening match on April 9, with the 2011 WPS Championship scheduled for the weekend of August 27–28. Paul Riley (English Footballer)
Paul Riley (born 23 September 1963) is an English former football player and coach. He spent his entire professional playing career in American leagues, including the American Professional Soccer League and the USISL. He has been a coach, mostly of women's teams, since the 1990s. In 2021, he was accused of sexual misconduct and mistreatment of players that spanned over a 10-year coaching period in the National Women's Soccer League and its predecessors. In 2023, Riley was banned from the NWSL for life. Playing career Youth In 1982, Riley came to the United States to attend Adelphi University. Women's Professional Soccer
Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) was the top-level professional women's soccer league in the United States. It began play on March 29, 2009. The league was composed of seven teams for its first two seasons and fielded six teams for the 2011 season, with continued plans for future expansion. The WPS was the highest level in the United States soccer pyramid for the women's game. On January 30, 2012, the league announced suspension of the 2012 season, citing several internal organization struggles as the primary cause. Some of these issues included an ongoing legal battle with magicJack owner Dan Borislow and the lack of resources invested into the league.
