Héctor Cardona
Héctor Francisco Cardona González (April 19, 1936 – June 16, 2017) was a Puerto Rican sports executive who served as the longtime President of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR) from 1991 until 2008, as well as the executive vice-president of International Amateur Boxing Association. Héctor Cardona was a boxing referee at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. He was serving as the President of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization ( CASCO) at the time of his death in June 2017. Most recently, Cardona was unanimously re-elected to a fourth term as President of CACSO by the 46th CACSO General Assembly in November 2015. Cardona was born on April 19, 1936, in Naguabo, Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico Olympic Committee
The Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR, ) is the National Olympic Committee for Puerto Rico. It oversees Olympic-sports in Puerto Rico, and selects the Olympic team which represents the island. It was founded by Julio Enrique Monagas, and was officially recognized in 1948. COPUR operates the ''Casa OlÃmpica'', its headquarters in Old San Juan. Puerto Rico at the Olympics, Teams representing Puerto Rico have participated in every Summer Olympics since 1948. They have also participated at the 1984–2002 and 2018 Winter Olympics. ''La Perla del Sur'' is a weekly online Spanish-language newspaper based in Ponce, Puerto Rico, catering to a regional audience. It started as a printed paper distributed in nine towns in southern Puerto Rico and had a circulation of 75,000. It also had an Internet portal where the entire printed version of the paper could be accessed. It was founded in 1983. After a three-month hiatus from June to September 2022, the paper re-opened as an online-only paper on 15 September 2022 under new ownership. History The newspaper was founded in Ponce in 1983 by Juan Nogueras de la Cruz with a crew of six employees. It was first published every other week, had 32 pages and a circulation of 40,000 copies. Osvaldo Luis Gil Bosch (August 25, 1932– March 30, 2025) was a Puerto Rican Lawyer and sports executive who chaired thethe Puerto Rico Olympic Committee and the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation. Early years Osvaldo Luis Gil Bosch was born on August 25, 1932 in Guayama, Puerto Rico, as one of four children. Osvaldo arrived in Humacao, Puerto Rico at the tender age of three. He studied in the public schools of Humacao, where he actively participated in the basketball, volleyball, athletics, softball, and of course baseball teams. He completed his high school education at UPR, where he participated in the baseball and softball teams. Earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Puerto Rico. Served in the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant infantry officer.
