Háj ve Slezsku (; ) is a municipality and village in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,200 inhabitants. Administrative division Háj ve Slezsku consists of five municipal parts (in brackets population according to the 2021 census): *Háj ve Slezsku (76) *Chabičov (1,254) *Jilešovice (318) *Lhota (595) *Smolkov (936) Etymology The name of the municipality means 'grove in Silesia' in Czech. Geography Háj ve Slezsku is located about northwest of Ostrava and east of Opava. The northern part of the municipality lies in the Głubczyce Plateau, Opava Hilly Land, the southern part is located in the Nízký Jeseník range. The highest point is at above sea level. The municipality is situated on the right bank of the Opava (river), Opava River, which forms the northern municipal border. Głubczyce Plateau
Głubczyce ( or sparsely ''Glubčice'', or ''Gubczycy'', ) is a town in Opole Voivodeship in south-western Poland, near the border with the Czech Republic. It is the administrative seat of Głubczyce County and Gmina Głubczyce. Geography Głubczyce is situated on the Głubczyce Plateau (; a part of the Silesian Lowlands) on the Psina (Cina) river, a left tributary of the Oder. The town centre is located approximately south of Opole and just northwest of Ostrava. History Middle Ages The area became part of the emerging Polish state in the 10th century. The settlement named ''Glubcici'' was first mentioned in an 1107 deed. At the time, it was a small village, dominated by a large wooden castle. Vladislav Vančura
Vladislav Vančura (; 23 June 1891 – 1 June 1942) was a Czech writer. He was also active as a film director, playwright and screenwriter. A member of the Czech resistance during WWII, he was captured and murdered by the Nazis. Early years Vančura was born on 23 June 1891 in Háj ve Slezsku in Austrian Silesia (today the Czech Republic). He was a descendant of an old noble Vančura of Řehnice family. His father Václav Vojtěch Vančura, born 1856 in Čáslav, was a Protestant and worked as an administrator of sugar refinery. His mother, Marie Svobodová was Catholic, born 1863 in Kluky. In 1896, the family moved to Davle, where they lived in a large country house. His broadminded father became a director of a brick factory. In Davle, young Vladislav was educated by a tutor between 1898 and 1904. ''Capricious Summer'' (), a 1968 Czechoslovak comedy film, was the first colour film directed by Jiří Menzel. It is based on the novel ''Rozmarné léto'' (Summer of Caprice) by the Czech writer Vladislav Vančura. It was listed to compete at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival, but the festival was cancelled due to the events of May 1968 in France. The film won the Crystal Globe at 1968 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Hajj (; ; also spelled Hadj, Haj or Haji) is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims. Hajj is a mandatory religious duty for capable Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey, and of supporting their family during their absence from home.
