Husqvarna Motorcycles
Husqvarna Motorcycles GmbH (; marketed as Husqvarna) is an Austrian motorcycle company with Swedish origins. It is co-owned by Indian Motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Group and Pierer Industrie AG, Pierer Mobility AG. The company began producing motorcycles in 1903 at Huskvarna, Sweden, as a subsidiary of the Husqvarna Vapenfabrik, Husqvarna armament firm. History Prior to 1987 Husqvarna was founded near the town of Huskvarna in Sweden in 1689. The company started out as a maker of muskets, and the Husqvarna logo still depicts a gun sight viewed from the end of the barrel. As with many motorcycle manufacturers, Husqvarna first began producing bicycles in the late 19th century. In 1903, they made the jump to motorcycle manufacturing. Stanley Woods
Stanley Woods (1903 – 28 July 1993) was an Irish motorcycle racer famous for 29 motorcycle Grand Prix wins in the 1920s and 1930s, winning the Isle of Man TT races ten times in his career, plus wins at Assen and elsewhere. He was also a skilled trials rider, competing in the 1940s. Life Woods was born in Dublin and educated at The High School, Dublin. He started racing in 1921 on a Harley-Davidson and made his début on the new Isle of Man ''Snaefell Mountain Course'' in 1922 as a promising seventeen-year-old, finishing fifth in the Junior TT on a Cotton, even though his machine had a fire at a pit stop, after which he completed the race without brakes. MV Agusta (, full name: MV AGUSTA Motor S.p.A., original name: Meccanica Verghera Agusta or MV) is an Italian high end motorcycle manufacturer. Cagiva
Cagiva is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer. It was founded in 1950 by Giovanni Castiglioni in Varese, originally producing small metal components. Giovanni's sons, Claudio and Gianfranco Castiglioni, went into the motorcycle industry in 1978. The name is a portmanteau derived from the founder's name 'Giovanni Castiglioni' and the founding location, i.e. Castiglioni Giovanni Varese. In its history, Cagiva won races in Dakar Rally, Dakar and Motocross competitions, as well as in Grand Prix motorcycle racing. Moped
A moped ( ) is a type of small motorcycle, generally having a less stringent licensing requirement than full motorcycles or automobiles. Historically, the term exclusively meant a similar vehicle with both bicycle pedals and a motorcycle engine. Mopeds typically travel only slightly faster than bicycles on public roads. Traditional mopeds are distinguishable by their pedals, similar to a bicycle. Some mopeds have a step-through frame design, while others have motorcycle frame designs, including a backbone and a raised fuel tank, mounted directly between the saddle and the head tube. Aurel Vlaicu
Aurel Vlaicu (; 19 November 1882 – 13 September 1913) was a Romanian engineer, inventor, airplane constructor, and early pilot.Gheorghiu, 1960 Early years and education Aurel Vlaicu was born in the village of Bințințiencenc in Transylvania, Austria-Hungary. In 1925, by then part of Romania, it was renamed ''Aurel Vlaicu'', and is now part of Geoagiu town. He attended a Calvinist high school in Szászváros (renamed Aurel Vlaicu High School in his honor in 1919) and took his baccalaureate in Nagyszeben (today Sibiu) in 1902. He was a high school colleague of Petru Groza, and in Nagyszeben became friends with Octavian Goga. Husaberg
Husaberg was a manufacturer of enduro motorcycles with four and two-stroke engines, the displacements ranging from 125 cc to 650 cc. Originally based in Sweden, its motorcycles were later manufactured in Austria by parent company KTM until the line was retired in 2014. History Foundation Husaberg Motor AB was established in 1988 from the circumstances of the purchase of the motorcycle division of Swedish company Husqvarna by the Italian manufacturer Cagiva in 1987. Baja 1000
The Baja 1000 is an annual Mexican off-road motorsport race held on the Baja California Peninsula, with a course of up to about 850 or more miles. It is one of the most prestigious off-road races in the world, having attracted competitors from six continents. The race was founded by Ed Pearlman in 1967 and is sanctioned by SCORE International. The race is the final round of a four-race annual series, which also includes the San Felipe 250, the Baja 400 and the Baja 500. The 2017 Baja 1000 marked the 50th anniversary of the race. The Baja 1000 has various types of classes, including Trophy trucks, Dirtbikes, Truggys, Side-by-sides, Baja Bugs and Buggies, all competing at the same time on the same course. World Enduro Championship
The FIM Enduro World Championship, formerly known as the World Enduro Championship, is the world championship series for enduro, a popular form of off-road motorcycle sport. The championship currently features three classes (E1, E2 and E3), along with separate categories for junior and female riders. The championship was first organized in 1990, and currently consists of 16 races based on eight two-day events. All rounds include an enduro test, a motocross test and an extreme test. Two-stroke Engine
A two-stroke (or two-stroke cycle) engine is a type of internal combustion engine that completes a Thermodynamic power cycle, power cycle with two strokes of the piston, one up and one down, in one revolution of the crankshaft in contrast to a four-stroke engine which requires four strokes of the piston in two crankshaft revolutions to complete a power cycle. During the stroke from bottom dead center to top dead center, the end of the exhaust/intake (or Scavenging (automotive), scavenging) is completed along with the compression of the mixture. The second stroke encompasses the combustion of the mixture, the expansion of the burnt mixture and, near bottom dead center, the beginning of the scavenging flows. Two-stroke engines often have a higher power-to-weight ratio than a four-stroke engine, since their power stroke occurs twice as often. Bill Nilsson
Bill Nilsson (17 December 1932 – 25 August 2013) was a Swedish professional motocross racer. He competed in the FIM Motocross World Championships from 1952 to 1967. Nilsson won the inaugural FIM Motocross World Championship in 1957 becoming the first official Motocross World Champion. He won a second World Championship in 1960 and was the first in a long line of Swedish motorcyclists who dominated the sport of motocross in the late 1950s and early 1960s including; Sten Lundin, Rolf Tibblin and Torsten Hallman. During a five year period from 1957 to 1961, Nilsson ranked first or second in the World Championships. He was an intimidating competitor known for his tenacious and aggressive riding style. Rolf Tibblin
Rolf Tibblin (born 7 May 1937) is a Swedish people, Swedish former professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1957 Motocross World Championship, 1957 to 1967 FIM Motocross World Championship, 1967, most prominently as a member of the Husqvarna Motorcycles, Husqvarna factory racing team where he was a two-time 500cc Motocross World Champion. His motorcycle racing career spanned the transition from the heavy, four-stroke motorcycles of the 1950s, to the lightweight two-stroke motorcycles of the 1960s. He was one of the first motocross competitors to stress the importance of a rigorous physical fitness training routine.
