Huseyn Seyidzadeh
Huseyn Ali oghlu Seyidzadeh () (15 October 1910, Erivan – 2 June 1979, Baku) was an Azerbaijani film director. Life and career Huseyn Seyidzadeh was born to a family of a merchant in the city of Yerevan (then part of the Russian Empire, now the capital of Armenia). He fled the city with his family in 1918 and settled first in Tiflis, and then in Baku. In 1936 Seyidzadeh graduated from the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow having been taught by prominent Soviet film directors such as Sergei Eisenstein, Mikhail Romm and Lev Kulidzhanov. He later worked at Lenfilm. Seyidzadeh directed his first film in 1943, with Leyla Badirbeyli in the leading role. Uzeyir bey Abdulhuseyn bey oghlu Hajibeyov (18 September 188523 November 1948) was an Azerbaijanis, Azerbaijani composer, musicologist and teacher. He is recognized as the father of Azerbaijani classical music. He composed the music of the Azərbaycan marşı, national anthem of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (which was re-adopted after Azerbaijan regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991). Hajibeyov also composed the anthem used by Anthem of the Azerbaijan SSR, Azerbaijan during the Soviet period. He was the first composer of an opera in the Islamic world. Leyla Aghalar gizi Badirbeyli and Leyla Badirbeyova – (after marriage – Javanshirova; ); (1920–1999), Soviet and Azerbaijani actress of theatre and cinema, People's Artiste of the Azerbaijan SSR (1959), laureate of the State Stalin Prize of the second degree (1946), member of the CPSU from 1945. Lev Aleksandrovich Kulidzhanov (19 March 192417 February 2002, also Lev Aleksandri Kulijanyan) was a Soviet and Armenian film director, screenwriter and professor at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography. He was the head of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR (19651986). People's Artist of the USSR (1976). He directed a total of twelve films between 1955 and 1994. Biography Born on 19 March 1924 (according to other sources including his tomb, on 19 August 1923) in Tiflis, Transcaucasian SFSR. His father Aleksandr Nikolayevich Kulidzhanov (originally Kulidzhanyan) was an Armenian revolutionary who served as a high-ranking Communist Party official. He was arrested during the Great Purge of 1937 and disappeared without a trace. Kulidzhanov's mother Yekaterina Dmitriyevna was either of Russian or of Armenian descent.
