Hurst is a village in the Civil parishes in England, civil parish of St Nicholas Hurst in the Borough of Wokingham, Berkshire, England. The village lies between Twyford and Wokingham, about north of the M4 motorway. Geography The parish of St Nicholas Hurst is about north of Wokingham and south of Twyford, Berkshire, Twyford in the county of Berkshire. It covers about and is the largest civil parishes in England, civil parish in the Wokingham (district), Borough of Wokingham. The village is on the A321 Twyford – Wokingham road. The Naze () is a peninsula in north James Ross Island, marking the southeast entrance to Herbert Sound and extending about northeast from Terrapin Hill toward the south-central shore of Vega Island. Location The Naze is to the east of Croft Bay extending north into Herbert Sound towards Vega Island. It is east of Ulu Peninsula, which forms the west side of Croft Bay, and north of Mount Haddington. Discovery and name The Naze was discovered and named "Nasudden" by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (SwedAE), 1901-04, under Otto Nordenskjöld. Hurst Performance, Inc. was an American manufacturer and marketer of automobile performance parts, most notably for muscle cars. History Hurst Performance was originally named Hurst-Campbell. The company was established in 1958 as an auto repair shop when George Hurst and Bill Campbell were both young men. The original shop was located on Glenside Ave. in Glenside, Pennsylvania. They later moved to a large building on the corner of Street Road and Jacksonville Road in Warminster, PA. An older man named Lawrence Greenwald (who is credited, among other things, as one of the inventors of stretch nylon hosiery), took certain cars from his collection to Hurst's shop for repair. Greenwald saw promise in Hurst and Campbell and decided to finance them in a venture to manufacture large aftermarket bumpers for VW buses, which were becoming increasingly popular. The Hurst exponent is used as a measure of long-term memory of time series. It relates to the autocorrelations of the time series, and the rate at which these decrease as the lag between pairs of values increases. Studies involving the Hurst exponent were originally developed in hydrology for the practical matter of determining optimum dam sizing for the Nile river's volatile rain and drought conditions that had been observed over a long period of time. The name "Hurst exponent", or "Hurst coefficient", derives from Harold Edwin Hurst (1880–1978), who was the lead researcher in these studies; the use of the standard notation ''H'' for the coefficient also relates to his name. From January 7 to 31, 2025, a series of 14 destructive wildfires affected the Los Angeles metropolitan area and San Diego County in California, United States. The fires were exacerbated by drought conditions, low humidity, a buildup of vegetation from the previous winter, and hurricane-force Santa Ana winds, which in some places reached . Norvelt is a census-designated place in Mount Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States, founded in 1934 as Westmoreland Homesteads. In 1937 it was renamed to honor Eleanor Roosevelt.
