Hurling Managers
Hurling (, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men and women. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurl or hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or in English) to hit a small ball called a ' (pronounced in English) between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The ' can be caught in the hand and carried for not more than four steps, struck in the air or struck on the ground with the hurley. Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. The county football team was the first from the province of Connacht to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), but the second to appear in the final, following Mayo. Hurley (stick)
A hurley or hurl or hurling stick (Irish language, Irish: ''camán'') is a wooden stick used in the Ireland, Irish sports of hurling and camogie. It typically measures between long with a flattened, curved ''bas'' ( , "Hand, palm of hand") at the end. The ''bas'' is used to strike a leather ''sliotar'' ball. GAA Rule 4.5 specifies that the bas should be no more than 13 cm at its widest point, however this rule is "ignored completely", with most hurleys having a ''bas'' in the region of 15.24 to 17 cm. Stephen Bennett (hurler)
Stephen Bennett (born 8 October 1995) is an Irish hurling, hurler who plays for Waterford Intermediate Hurling Championship, Waterford Intermediate Championship club Ballysaggart GAA, Ballysaggart and at inter-county level with the Waterford senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a full-forward. Playing career Blackwater Community School Bennett first came to prominence as a hurler with Blackwater Community School in Lismore, County Waterford, Lismore. He played in every grade of hurling and enjoyed some success. On 23 November 2011, Bennett scored ten points for Blackwater CS in their 0-11 to 0-08 defeat of Dungarvan Community School to win the Dean Ryan Cup. He also spent four years with the Blackwater CS senior hurling team in the Dr. Harty Cup. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest-tier competition for inter-county hurling in Ireland and has been contested in every year except one since 1887 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1887.
