Huntington Township is one of twelve townships in Huntington County, Indiana. As of the 2020 census, its population was 20,326, making it the most populous township in the county. Huntington Township was organized in 1834. History The Chief Richardville House and Miami Treaty Grounds and Rangeline Road Bridge are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of , of which (or 97.85%) is land and (or 2.15%) is water. Lakes in the township include Big Blue, Lake Clare, and the J. Edward Roush Reservoir. The stream of Rabbit Run runs through the township. Huntington North High School
Huntington North High School is a public high school serving all of Huntington County, Indiana. The school is operated by the Huntington County Community School Corporation. History Huntington North opened in 1969; the school opened over a month late into the school year due to construction projects. With minimal repairs made to the building over 50 years, a 2019 test that resulted in high carbon dioxide levels led some parents to disenroll their children from the school. A November 2019 referendum to build a new academic wing, performing arts wing and technical education wing failed. Huntington University is a private Christian university in Huntington, Indiana. It is affiliated with the Church of the United Brethren in Christ and a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). History Huntington University opened as Central College in 1897 after the General Board of Education of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ proposed a new institution of higher learning in Huntington, Indiana. This came soon after the closure of Hartsville College, the denomination's college in Hartsville, Indiana. Indiana State Road 16
State Road 16 (SR 16) is an east–west state road in the US state of Indiana. The western terminus is at an intersection with U.S. Highway 41 (US 41), near Ade, and its eastern terminus is at SR 5, near Huntington. The state road runs through seven counties in northern Indiana mostly through rural farm fields and small towns. Dating back to the early days of the state road system, SR 16 was first signed in the southern part of the state. It was moved to northern Indiana in 1926, running in two segments with the western segment being modern SR 14 from Illinois state line to Rochester and the eastern segment being modern US 224 in Indiana. During the 1930s, SR 16 was moved onto its modern routing from US 41 to SR 5. US 224 replaced SR 16 east of Huntington in the mid-1930s. State Road 9 in the U.S. State of Indiana is a long north–south state highway in the eastern portion of Indiana. Its southern terminus is near Columbus at State Road 46, and the northern terminus is at the Michigan/Indiana border between Howe, Indiana, and Sturgis, Michigan, where it continues as M-66. Some of Indiana 9 is divided highway and even freeway, but Interstate 69 largely supplants it as all but a regional route between Huntington and Anderson. State Road 5 (SR 5) is a north–south state road in the US state of Indiana. Its southern terminus is at SR 22 in Upland, and the northern terminus is at SR 120 just north of Shipshewana. The state road runs for just over , passing through five counties in northern Indiana, mostly through rural farm fields and small towns. The largest city along its path is Huntington. It is entirely a surface highway that is very rural outside of the towns. SR 5 runs along two dams the first being J. Edward Roush Lake Dam and the second being the Wilmot Dam. U.S. Route 224 (US 224) is a spur of US 24 that runs through the states of Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. It currently runs for from US 24 in Huntington, Indiana, east to US 422 Business (US 422 Bus.) and Pennsylvania Route 18 (PA 18) in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
