Hunt County
Hunt County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 99,956. Its seat of government is Greenville. The county is named for Memucan Hunt, Jr., the first Republic of Texas Minister to the United States from 1837 to 1838 and the third Texas Secretary of the Navy from 1838 to 1839. Hunt County is located in Northeast Texas, at the eastern edge of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, and the western edge of East Texas. Geography Hunt County is located in Northeast Texas, and by extension, a part of East Texas. The Piney Woods begin in the eastern portion of the county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which (4.7%) are covered by water. Memucan Hunt, Jr
According to the biblical book of Esther (Esther 1:14, 1:16-21), Memucan () was one of the seven vice-regents of the Persian King Ahasuerus. Biblical account When ''Queen Vashti'', Ahasuerus' consort, refused his order to display herself at the king's banquet, Memucan advised the king to depose her and replace her with a more worthy wife. Memucan further advised the king to issue a decree throughout his domain declaring his action, so that all women would learn a lesson and honor and respect their husbands. The decree was translated and transcribed into each language and script of the empire, so that each man would be "master in his own house." US 380
U.S. Route 380 (US 380) is an east–west United States highway. The highway's eastern terminus is in Greenville, Texas at an intersection with Interstate 30, of which the easternmost 3–4 miles are concurrent with US 69 in a loop around the west and south sides of Greenville. Its western terminus is at San Antonio, New Mexico, south of Socorro at an intersection with Interstate 25. It intersected with its parent, U.S. Route 80, at Cisco until 1971, when it was rerouted along the former SH 24 from that highway's western terminus near Old Glory to Greenville. Former U.S. Route 380 from Cisco to near Old Glory became an extension of SH 6. The highway no longer connects to any x80 route. US 380 passes through some of the far northern suburbs of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, including (from west to east) Denton, Frisco, McKinney and Princeton. State Highway 224 (SH 224) is a Texas state highway running from Greenville northeast to Commerce. The route was designated in 1979 as a renumbering of a portion of its parent SH 24 when it was rerouted southward from Commerce along SH 50. History Previous route On October 22, 1935, SH 224 was designated as a route from SH 6 to the A&M University Administration Building via New Main Drive. This route was canceled on September 26, 1939, and it was redesignated on January 27, 1940, as Spur 86 (erroneously omitted from the renumbering). Spur 86 was canceled on January 30, 1951. State Highway 66 (SH 66) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas, connecting Garland to Greenville. The route runs roughly parallel to Interstate 30, passing through Rowlett, Rockwall, Fate, Royse City, and Caddo Mills. It also crosses Lake Ray Hubbard twice. It is known locally as Lakeview Parkway in Rowlett and as Avenue B in Garland. History SH 66 was previously designated first on August 21, 1923 as a route from Bogata northeast through Clarksville toward the Oklahoma town of Idabel, replacing part of SH 37. Its northern terminus is at SH 34 in Ladonia. State Highway 24 (Texas)
State Highway 24 (SH 24) runs from Campbell to Paris in north Texas. It is a portion of the main route, along with Interstate 30, from Paris to the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. History On June 21, 1917, SH 24 was designated from Denton to Whitesboro. The historic routing of SH 24 was one of the 25 original Texas state highways. On August 21, 1923, the routing had changed substantially. The original Denton to Whitesboro route was removed from the state highway system (it was later SH 10). A portion of the former SH 28 from Jacksboro to Benjamin was reassigned as SH 24. A portion of SH 22 from Graham to Olney that was concurrent with SH 28, was also signed as SH 24, and was not concurrent with another state highway as there were two state routes that replaced part of SH 22 north and south of SH 24.
