Hultsfred Municipality, Kalmar County
Hultsfred Municipality (''Hultsfreds kommun'') is a municipality in Kalmar County, in south-eastern Sweden. The seat is in the town of Hultsfred. The present municipality was created in 1971 through the amalgamation of the market town (''köping'') of Hultsfred (instituted in 1927) with a number of surrounding municipalities. In 1863 there were eight entities in the area. Hultsfred is known as the site of a major rock festival in Sweden, the Hultsfred Festival. History In the age known as the Nordic Bronze Age, the area had some shipping of furs to northern Germany and the Roman army, but not much is known from that time other than the area being inhabited; there has also been older finds from 3000 to 4000 BC. However, from the medieval age, around 1100 AD, there still remains a few churches. The area continued to be inhabited mainly by farmers until the 20th century. Uppvidinge Municipality
Uppvidinge Municipality (''Uppvidinge kommun'') is a municipality in Kronoberg County, southern Sweden, with its seat in the town of Åseda. The present municipality, which took its name from a hundred, was formed by the local government reform of 1971 when ''Lenhovda'', ''Nottebäck'', ''Åseda'' and ''Älghult'' were amalgamated. The number of original entities, as of 1863, is six. The first amalgamation in the area (Granhult merged with Nottebäck) took place already in 1915. The municipality has a rather small population but its slogan states "In a Small Municipality Man Becomes Large". More than 80% of the area is covered with forests, making it live up to the general public's impression of the "dark" province of Småland. Högsby Municipality
Högsby Municipality ( sv, Högsby kommun) is a municipality in Kalmar County, south-eastern Sweden. Its seat is located in the town Högsby. The latest nationwide subdivision reform in Sweden was centred on the year 1971. In this area the amalgamation took place already in 1969 when Fagerhult joined Högsby. The municipality has the smallest population of the municipalities of Kalmar County. The population increase has been insignificant - in 1908 the parish had some 5,000 inhabitants. The municipality itself was created with the Swedish municipal reform in 1971. History Högsby Municipality has a history tracing back to the medieval age, around 1,200 BC. Oskarshamn Municipality
Oskarshamn Municipality (''Oskarshamns kommun'') is a municipality in Kalmar County in south-eastern Sweden, where the city Oskarshamn is seat. The amalgamations in the present municipality took place in 1967 when three rural municipalities joined the ''City of Oskarshamn'', which was transformed into a municipality of unitary type in 1971. In 1966 construction started on the first nuclear power plant, OKG, within the present municipality. Since then two more reactors have been built and the plant today produces about 10% of Sweden's electricity. In October 2020 the municipal council voted in favour of the building of Forsmark nuclear waste repository, with the final decision needing to be made by the Swedish government.
