McDaniels is an unincorporated community in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, United States. McDaniels is located along Kentucky Route 259, due south of Hardinsburg. McDaniels is situated on Rough River Lake, which collects the North Fork Rough River, which flows for its entire length in Breckinridge County. McDaniels has a post office with ZIP code 40152. History The town was founded by Sam Spencer and named in honor of William McDaniels after his death. A post office was established in 1860 but it quickly closed. Another post office was opened in 1874. McDaniels was one of the original pioneers of Breckinridge County, and where the town got its name. Hardinsburg is a home rule-class city in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is the seat of its county. The population was 2,343 at the 2010 census. Hardinsburg was named after Captain William Hardin. History In August 1779, Sinclair Hardin, William's cousin, was the first man killed (by the Shawnee) west of the Alleghenies Mountains at Big Springs during an early excursion into the Kentucky wilderness. Area code 270 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the Commonwealth of Kentucky's western and south central counties. Area code 270 was split from area code 502 on April 19, 1999. Planning for the introduction of a second area code for the region, area code 364, was assigned in 2007. After several years of delay in activation, it was announced in December 2012 that the two area codes would be configured in an overlay plan in August 2013.
