Whitewater is a village in Hubble Township in southwestern Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, United States. The population was 88 at the 2020 census. Gordoville is a village in Cape Giradeau County, Missouri, United States. The population was 625 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cape Girardeau– Jackson, MO- IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Etymology Gordonville was named after Sam Gordon, who established a watermill on the same site where the Gordonville Milling Company operated. History The land around present-day Gordonville was originally owned by Sam Gordon and his father, who lived in Indiana. Sam Gordon established the first store in the town in either 1857 or 1858, and the town became known as Gordonville. The first church in the town was set up by Methodist missionaries on the farm of Louis Siemers in 1848, with Liberty School house being established shortly later. Dutchtown is a census-designated place (CDP) and former village in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, United States, located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 74. The population was 163 at the 2020 census. It was part of the Cape Girardeau–Jackson, MO- IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Dutchtown had a long history of habitation. Martin Rodner, a Hessian soldier who came to America in 1776 to fight for the British during America's Revolutionary War, moved his family to the Dutchtown area in 1801, where he owned a water mill on Hubble Creek. Because his American neighbors had trouble pronouncing his name, it became "Rodney", and his mill was known as Rodney's Mill. He died in 1827. In the mid-1830s, the area near Rodney's Mill began being settled by Swiss and German families; they called their settlement Spencer. Allenville is a village in Hubble Township in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, United States. The population was 95 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cape Girardeau–Jackson, MO- IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History and Industry Allenville was named after Tom Allen, who was the builder of the Belmont Branch Railroad and was platted in 1869 when the railroad was extended to that point. The community was also a point on the old Lone Star Trail, and cattle were driven over the trail all the way from Texas to the Allenville railroad terminal. A post office was established at Allenville in 1869, and remained in operation until 1974.
