Hoàng Cầm Stove
The Hoàng Cầm stove, named after its inventor, Hoàng Cầm, the chef, a Viet Minh soldier in 1951, was a stove intake and chimney system which diffused and dissipated smoke from cooking which prevented aerial detection of smoke by American military planes. They were used extensively in the Cu Chi tunnels and other hideouts. Another name for the cooker was the "guitar stove". The system required a deep, covered hole in the ground from which long underground bamboo vents dissipated the smoke. The inventor of the stove was reportedly born 1916 and died 1996. He served in the PAVN since 1947 in the rear services, left the army in 1958 with the rank Captain. He was no known relation to either Hoàng Cầm (general), Hoàng Cầm, the general (born 1920) or Hoàng Cầm (poet), Hoàng Cầm, the poet (born 1922), both of which are chosen names. Hoàng Cầm (general)
Hoàng Cầm (born Đỗ Văn Cầm) (1920–2013) was a colonel general in the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN). Early years Hoàng Cầm was born Đỗ Văn Cầm in Cao Sơn, Ứng Hòa district, Hà Tây province of the Tonkin Protectorate. Cầm had a poor childhood, was orphaned at age of 12. He joined Tirailleurs indochinois stationed at Lai Châu for a living at age of 21. Two years later he was transferred to Hà Nội, but deserted thus escaping from Japanese coup d'état in French Indochina in March 1945. Cầm joined the Youth Union of Hà Nội in July 1945, then joined of Hà Nội after August Uprising and changed his name to Hoàng Cầm. Hoàng Cầm (22 February 1922 – 6 May 2010) was pen name of Bùi Tằng Việt, a Vietnamese poet, playwright, and novelist. He is best remembered for his poems such as '' Bên kia sông Đuống'', ''Lá diêu bông'' or the plays ''Kiều Loan'' and ''Hận Nam Quan''. Being involved in the Nhân Văn affair, Hoàng Cầm retreated from the Vietnam Writers' Association in 1958, later in 2007 he was awarded the National Prize for Literature and Art by the Government of Vietnam.
