Hoyte, Texas
Hoyte is an unincorporated community located in Milam County, Texas, United States. According to the ''Handbook of Texas'', the community had a population of 20 in 2000. History John B. McLane granted the railroad land for a passing track and a wood-loading spur in 1900. The town had a modest depot and served as a flag stop for the rail route for a while. Hoyte's first post office opened in 1904, but was shut down in 1907. On county highway maps from 1941, a few dispersed residences identified the town. Twenty people lived in Hoyte in 1990. In 2000, the population was unchanged. Geography Hoyte is located on U.S. Highway 190 on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, southeast of Cameron in central Milam County. The Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) is an American nonprofit educational and research organization dedicated to documenting the history of Texas. It was founded in Austin, Texas, United States, on March 2, 1897. In November 2008, the TSHA moved its offices from Austin to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. In 2015, the offices were relocated again to the University of Texas at Austin. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway , often referred to as the Santa Fe or AT&SF, was one of the largest Class 1 railroads in the United States between 1859 and 1996. The Santa Fe was a pioneer in intermodal freight transport; at various times, it operated an airline, the short-lived Santa Fe Skyway, and the Santa Fe Railroad tugboats.
