Howison is an unincorporated community located in Harrison County, Mississippi. Howison is approximately north of Saucier and south of McHenry and part of the Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area. Howison is located on the Kansas City Southern Railway. The Native Lumber Company was incorporated in Howison in 1899 and operated a sawmill there. A post office operated under the name Howison from 1897 to 1953. Harrison County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2020 census, Harrison County is the second-most populous county in Mississippi with a population of 208,621; although the most recent population estimate from 2024 suggests Harrison County has overtaken Hinds County to become the state's most populous county, with a population of 213,730. Its county seats are Biloxi and Gulfport. The county is named after U.S. President William Henry Harrison. Harrison County is part of the Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and location information about more than two million physical and cultural features, encompassing the United States and its territories; the Compact of Free Association, associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau; and Antarctica. Saucier, Mississippi
Saucier is a census-designated place (CDP) in Harrison County, Mississippi, United States. It is part of the Gulfport–Biloxi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,077 at the 2020 census. History Originally located on the now-defunct Gulf & Ship Island Railroad, the hamlet established a money order post office and express office in 1893. In 1900, the hamlet had a population of about 110 and had a sawmill, drugstore, confectionery store, and five general stores. In 1906, it had a population of 200. During World War II, Axis prisoners were held at a prison-of-war camp in Saucier. The camp closed following the war and turned into a recreation area, with only the ruins of an ammunition bunker remaining. Following the 1954 ''Brown v. Board of Education'' decision, Saucier began to implement desegregation 24 years later, one of the last towns to integrate schools. McHenry, is an unincorporated community in southern Stone County, Mississippi. It is situated approximately south of Wiggins and north of Saucier. The community is part of the Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area. History The town of McHenry was settled by Dr. George McHenry in 1889.Cooper, Forrest Lamar. 2011.
