Howa Type 20
The , referred to as the , is an assault rifle developed for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force by Howa. The first examples were purchased in 2019, and it is intended to eventually replace the Howa Type 89 in general service. History On May 18 2020, the Ministry of Defense announced that the rifle would be designated as the Type 20. It was also announced that the Type 20 will first be issued to soldiers in the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade. In the DSEI 2023 convention, Howa Deputy General Manager Kimura stated some foreign countries have inquired about possibly getting the Type 20 and the matter was referred to Japan's Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA) and Howa representatives. SIG 516
The SIG Sauer SIG516 is an assault rifle manufactured by SIG Sauer, chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO. History The SIG Sauer SIG516 shares lineage with the Heckler & Koch HK416. The principal firearms engineers for the SIG516 were Robert Hirt and Chris Sirois. Following his time with Heckler & Koch, Hirt was recruited by SIG Sauer to work with then SIG engineer Chris Sirois on an improved version of the HK416. The SIG516 omitted many proprietary HK416 components that were exchanged for standard (M4 carbine mil spec conform) components. Other HK416 issues like the (at the time) high cyclic rate, which causes lower life cycle, a gas vent, which showed up in low light conditions, and safety issues (i.e. the need for a firing pin safety) were also addressed. The is the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force's special forces unit, established on March 27, 2004. Their mission is infiltration into enemy territory, reconnaissance, sabotage, and hostage rescue, and conducting military operations against guerrillas or enemy commandos. The unit is based in Camp Narashino in Funabashi, Chiba, along with the 1st Airborne Brigade. Vertical Forward Grip
A vertical forward grip or foregrip is a vertical pistol grip mounted on the fore-end of a long-barrel firearm, designed for grasping by the frontal support hand (or "off hand"). Use Forward grips aid in the maneuverability of the firearm, since the natural angle of a person's outstretched hand is more oriented to grasping objects at a vertical angle, rather than a horizontal one perpendicular to the body.
