Horatio Torromé
Horatio Tertuliano Torromé, also credited as Henri Torromé (1861 – 16 September 1920), was a British figure skater who also competed for Argentina. Torromé was born in Rio de Janeiro to an Argentine father and a Brazilian mother, and not long after his birth, the family emigrated to London, England. He took up ice skating at his local club, which was the Prince's Skating Club in Knightsbridge, London. Torromé competed at the 1902 World Figure Skating Championships in London, and he finished in fourth place out of four starters. In 1905 and 1906, he came first at the British Figure Skating Championships. Although Torromé qualified to represent Great Britain at the 1908 Summer Olympics, he opted to compete for his father's home country and so became the only representative for Argentina at the 1908 Summer Olympics held in London. The mixed pairs was one of four events in figure skating at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Each nation could enter up to 3 pairs (6 skaters).Official Report, p. 39. Scores from 0 to 6 were given for each figure for both (a) content (difficulty and variety) and (b) performance. The total possible score was therefore 12. Each judge would then arrange the pairs in order of total score by that judge; these ordinal rankings were used to provide final placement for the pairs, using a "majority rule"--if a majority of the judges ranked a pair first, the pair won. Candlewick (ward)
Candlewick is a small ward, one of the 25 ancient wards in the City of London, England. It was named after Cannon Street, which historically was called Candlewright (or Candlewick) Street, and a small part of Cannon Street continues to be within the ward's boundaries. Its northern boundary runs along Lombard Street – to the north is the ward of Langbourn. Gracechurch Street forms Candlewick's eastern boundary with Bridge ward, down to the Monument to the Great Fire of London, erected to commemorate the place where the Great Fire started 2 September 1666. Its southern boundary curves along Arthur Street, incorporating traffic from London Bridge to its western edge along Laurence Pountney Lane, Sherbourne Lane and Abchurch Lane in Walbrook ward.
