Hoopstad
The town of Hoopstad is situated at the intersection of the R34 (South Africa), R34, R59 (South Africa), R59 & R700 (South Africa), R700 in the Free State (province), Free State Province. This area is considered to be the richest maize-producing district in South Africa. The town is located near the Bloemhof Dam which is situated on the Vaal River. The Sandveld Nature Reserve is positioned alongside the Bloemhof Dam. Hopetown and Hoopstad are two different towns and are often confused. History and activities The town of Hoopstad was initially founded in 1876 and named Hauptstad after Mr Haupt, a surveyor. The translation of Hauptstad into Afrikaans means Capital, which it clearly wasn't and the town was therefore renamed Hoopstad. The R59 is a provincial route (South Africa), provincial route in South Africa that connects Hertzogville with Alberton, Gauteng, Alberton (south-east of Johannesburg) via Bothaville, Parys and Vereeniging. The R59 is a freeway from the R57 Junction in Sasolburg until the N12 Reading Interchange in Alberton, signposted as the Sybrand van Niekerk Freeway. Route Free State The R59 begins at a t-junction with the R64 (South Africa), R64 about 18 kilometres west of Dealesville. The R700 is a regional route in Free State, South Africa that connects Hoopstad with Bloemfontein via Bultfontein and Soutpan. Route The R700's northern terminus is a junction with the R59 route at Hoopstad (just south of the R59's Vet River bridge; which provides access to the town centre). It begins by running south-south-east for 53 km to the town of Bultfontein, where it meets the south-western terminus of the R710 route and continues southwards via a right turn. It bypasses Bultfontein to the west and reaches a junction with the R708 route. The R708 joins the R700 for 1.8 km southwards before the R708 becomes its own road eastwards while the R700 remains facing southwards. R34 (South Africa)
The R34 is a long provincial route in South Africa that connects Vryburg with Richards Bay via Kroonstad and Newcastle. It passes through three provinces, North West, the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal. Route North West The R34 begins a few kilometres east of the town of Vryburg, North West at a t-junction with the N14 national route, which is the main road into the town. The R34 starts by going south-east for 60 kilometres to the town of Schweizer-Reneke. In the town centre, it meets the R506 road and the R504 route at a 4-way junction with Schweizer Street. The R506 joins the R34 to be co-signed southwards. They are one road for 2.5 kilometres, crossing the Harts River before the R506 becomes its own road south-west. Wesselsbron
Wesselsbron is a small maize farming town 75 kilometres south of Bothaville in Free State province of South Africa. Town 32 km east of Hoopstad and 48 km north-west of Welkom. It was laid out in 1920 and became a municipality in 1936. Named after Commandant Cornelis J Wessels who was in command of the Siege of Kimberley from 13 October 1899 to 12 February 1900. Bron is Afrikaans for ‘source’, ‘spring’. Wesselsbron has a vast district which stretches from the Vet River in the south to the Vaal River in the north. The main cultivation is corn, but also wheat, sunflower and peanuts are cultivated. The grain silos of Senwes are the biggest silo complex in the Southern Hemisphere and can cope with the enormous amount of 275,000 tons of grain. Bultfontein
Bultfontein is a town in the Free State province of South Africa with a total population of about 23,400 people. It is situated in the Tswelopele Local Municipality, about north of Bloemfontein. The town site was laid out in 1873; it had been delayed because of a location dispute which also led to the establishment of Hoopstad to the north-west. The township of Phahameng was established on the outskirts of Bultfontein in the 1970s. According to the 2011 census, Bultfontein proper has a population of 2,176, while Phahameng has a population of 21,189, giving the urban area a total population of 23,365. Of this population 93% described themselves as Black African, 5.5% as White, and 0.5% as Coloured. 57% spoke Sotho as their home language, 23% spoke Xhosa, 9.5% spoke Tswana and 6% spoke Afrikaans as first language. Bothaville
Bothaville is a maize farming town situated near the Vaal River in the Lejweleputswa DM of the Free State province, South Africa. It is situated 60 km east of the Vaal, on the bank of its Vals River tributary. Bothaville and the adjacent Kgotsong township have a total of approximately 46,000 residents. The indigenous Sesotho name for the town is Mophate, which is the name of a clay pot used when traveling. History A 'church town', Botharnia, was established in 1891 on a portion of Gladdedrift farm, by Voortrekker JP van Wyk who left Pretoria after religious persecution. Bloemhof is an agricultural town of about 2,000 inhabitants situated on the banks of the Vaal River in North West Province of South Africa. Hertzogville
Hertzogville is a small cattle and sheep farming town in the Free State province of South Africa. It is named after South Africa's longest-serving prime minister, James Barry Munnik Hertzog. Hertzogville lies about an hour and a half from three main cities, Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Welkom.
