Holy Transfiguration Monastery, Horodok, Ukraine
The Holy Transfiguration Monastery () is a Ukrainian Greek Catholic Studite monastery in the town of Horodok, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. Located on the area of the ancient settlement of town's historical origin, the monastery's buildings arose as a result of reconstruction of the former military barracks located in the abandoned 15th-century Franciscan monastery. Origin According to historic sources site was occupied by sacred buildings from time of Principality of Halych. Ukrainian Studite Monks
The Ukrainian Studites (), formally the Monks of the Studite Rule (; ; abbreviated MSU) are a monastic order of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. History The Studite rule was developed at the Stoudios monastery of Constantinople, from the 5th century onward, especially by Saint Theodore the Studite (760–826). The rule was brought to Kievan Rus in the 11th century by Saint Theodosius of Kiev. In the 17th century all Ukrainian monasteries were united in the Order of Saint Basil the Great, following a path similar to that taken by Western Rite monasticism. With the dire situation of Ukrainian monasticism and the reform of the Basilian Order in the end of the 19th century, Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky decided to also reintroduce monasticism based on the Studite rule. The Eparchy of Stryi is an eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. It is a suffragan see of the Archeparchy of Lviv. __NOTOC__ Horodok (, ; ) is a city in Lviv Raion, Lviv Oblast, western Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Horodok urban hromada, Lviv Oblast, Horodok urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. The Principality of Galicia (; ), also known as Principality of Halych or Principality of Halychian Rus, was a medieval East Slavs, East Slavic principality, and one of the main regional states within the political scope of Kievan Rus', established by members of the oldest line of Yaroslav the Wise's descendants. Studite Brethren Monasteries
The Monastery of Stoudios, more fully Monastery of Saint John the Forerunner "at Stoudios" (), often shortened to ''Stoudios'', Studion or ''Stoudion'' (), was a Greek Orthodox monastery in Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul), the capital of the Byzantine Empire. The residents of the monastery were referred to as Stoudites or Studites. Although the monastery has been derelict for half a millennium, the laws and customs of the Stoudion were taken as models by the monks of Mount Athos and of many other monasteries of the Orthodox world; even today they have influence. The ruins of the monastery are situated not far from the Propontis (Sea of Marmara) in the section of Istanbul called Psamathia, today's Koca Mustafa Paşa.
