Season The program's first season under Mike Hastings promised changes and the roster reflected as much before the opening puck was dropped. Of the eleven new players, five were NHL draft picks. Those new teenagers were augmented by three transfers from Minnesota State, Hastings' previous posting, and would be able to help the Badgers adjust to the new style if nothing else. Critical to Wisconsin's chances was goaltending. Kyle McClellan was the only netminder with any starting experience and he would need to a greater aptitude than he had previously if the Badgers were to wake up from their slumber. The 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season began on October 6, 2023, and concluded with the NCAA championship on April 13, 2024. This was the 76th season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship is being held, and is US college hockey's 130th year overall. Conference realignment After Robert Morris suspended its program in the summer of 2021, a successful fundraising campaign allowed the team to return for this season. The program rejoined Atlantic Hockey, bringing the number of conference members back up to 11. The same summer, Augustana University proceeded with plans to promote its athletic department to Division I. In concert with that decision, the school finalized the addition of a new ice hockey program that would begin with this season. In the interim, the program was accepted into the CCHA as the ninth member team and would play its first two seasons using a transition schedule before becoming a full member in 2025. Season With the vast majority of the team returning, there was little reason to think that Lake Superior wouldn't be able to have at least as good a season as they had in 2022. However, from the drop of the puck, nothing seemed to go right for the Lakers. Early on, neither Ethan Langenegger nor Seth Eisele were able to keep the puck out of the goal; Laker Superior averaged nearly 4 goals against per game through their first 8 games. Worse, the o ...

Season In the offseason, Garrett Wait suffered a potentially career-ending knee injury during a workout. He was medically disqualified from playing during the 2022–23 season. Beside Wait, the Minumemen would have to deal with the loss of several key players as their leaders on offense ( Bobby Trivigno), defense (Matthew Kessel) and in goal ( Matt Murray) all had to be replaced. Coach Carvel brought in a talent-laden recruiting class to do just that with 4 freshmen who were already NHL draft picks as well as two drafted transfers. UMass was ranked highly entering the season, making the top 10 in both polls and was ...

The Badgers represented the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season. They were coached by Tony Granato in his seventh season and played their home games at Kohl Center. Season After an abysmal season, Wisconsin was hoping for a resurgence in 2023. Unfortunately for the Badgers, this season the Big Ten was the strongest conference in the nation, boasting upwards of 6 teams ranked in the top 20. Wisconsin was the odd man out and though they did see improvements on both the offensive and defensive side of the puck, it wasn't enough to keep them out of the conference cellar. From the start of the season the Badgers had to face a murderer's row of opponents and played their first 8 games against ranked teams. While they did win two of those games, both were against non-conference competition and only marginally h ...

The Bulldogs represented Yale University and were coached by Keith Allain, in his 15th season. Season After ending an unbroken string of 125 years of varsity hockey, Yale returned to the ice looking to put the COVID-19 pandemic in the past. Unfortunately, due in part to missing all of the past season, the Bulldogs were very slow out of the gate and were never really able to find their stride. Yale lost each of their first six games, however, more concerning was that the team went scoreless in four of those contests. Their offence did pick up a bit in early December but it didn't stay that way for long. Over the course of the season Yale's scoring was dreadful, averaging less than two goals a game. While the defense didn't play particularly well, it was able to keep the Bulldogs in most g ...

Season Providence began the season well, winning its first three games and headed into the Ice Breaker Tournament ranked in the top 10. They finished last in the tournament but recovered a week later with a win over Denver.
