Holiday Beach is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Aransas County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 514. This was a new CDP for the 2010 census. Geography Holiday Beach is located at (28.167125, -97.008001). It is situated on the eastern shore of Copano Bay along State Highway 35 in Aransas County, approximately northeast of Rockport. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , of which, of it is land and is water. History Development of the area began in the mid-1960s, when a group of Dallas investors organized the Copano Land Company. The first lots were sold around 1964. The subdivision continued to develop with waterfront homes and boat canals throughout the remainder of the twentieth century. Holiday Beach was home to an estimated 1,000 residents in 2000. A census-designated place (CDP) is a concentration of population defined by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purposes only. Aransas County Independent School District is an independent county-wide school district based in Rockport, Texas, United States. The district serves a area that covers most of Aransas County, including the city of Rockport, the town of Fulton, and the unincorporated communities of Holiday Beach and Lamar. History The first public school in Aransas County was instituted in 1884 where the Rockport city water tower once stood. In 1886 a one-room school house was built in Fulton. A one-room school at Sparks Colony followed. The school met in various places and land was sought for the location of a permanent building to house the school. The land was purchased and the building completed in 1892. It was constructed at the site of present-day Rockport Elementary. Rockport, Texas
Rockport is a city in Aransas County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,766 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat. Rockport is adjacent to the town of Fulton, and many refer to the combined communities as "Rockport-Fulton"; however, Rockport and Fulton are legally separate municipalities. History 19th Century Following the Civil War, a number of people considered developing the Live Oak Peninsula. Joseph F. Smith, who had founded the nearby town of St. Mary's in 1850, joined with Thomas H. Mathis and his cousin J.M. Mathis, who were agents of the Morgan Steamship line, and built a wharf at the site of what would later become the town of Rockport, in 1867. The same year, George W. Texas State Highway 35
State Highway 35 (SH 35) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas, maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). It runs primarily south–north, paralleling the Gulf of Mexico for much of its length, from a junction with Interstate 37 in Corpus Christi to Interstate 45 in southeastern Houston. Copano Bay
Copano Bay is a northwestern extension of Aransas Bay, west of Rockport, Texas in Refugio and Aransas counties. It is supplied with seawater from the Gulf of Mexico via Aransas Bay, and fed freshwater from the Aransas River, Mission River and Copano Creek. As an estuary, the bay is home to a diverse ecosystem consisting of various birds including the endangered whooping crane, and numerous finfish including the redfish as well as shellfish such as oysters. It is classified as a nursery for shrimp, which prohibits production from the bay.
