Hockley County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 21,537. Its county seat is Levelland. The county was created in 1876, but not organized until 1921. It is named for George Washington Hockley, a secretary of war of the Republic of Texas. Hockley County comprises the Levelland Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Lubbock–Levelland Combined Statistical Area. History Hockley County was formed in 1876 from portions of Bexar and Young Counties. Hockley County Courthouse
Hockley is a large village and civil parish in Essex in the East of England located between Chelmsford and Southend-on-Sea, or, more specifically, between Rayleigh and Rochford. It came to prominence during the coming of the railway in the 1890s and at the 2001 census had a population of 13,616 people, reducing to 9,616 at the 2011 Census,. The parish of Hockley itself had a population of 8,909 at the (2001 census), while the urban area runs into the neighbouring parish of Hawkwell. Hockley railway station serves the village. State Highway 114 (SH 114) is a state highway that runs from the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex westward across Texas to the New Mexico state line, where it becomes New Mexico State Road 114, which eventually ends at Elida, New Mexico at US 70 / NM 330. History The route was originally designated on April 14, 1926, as a connector between Dallas and Rhome. In June 1932, SH 114 was extended to Bridgeport. On February 12, 1935, an extension northward from Chico to Sunset was added. On July 15, 1935, the section from Chico to Sunset was cancelled. This section was restored on August 1, 1938. On October 6, 1943, the section of SH 114 from US 77 in Dallas to US 67 was cancelled. Yoakum County, Texas
Yoakum County is a county located in the far western portion of the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 7,694. Its county seat is Plains. The county was created in 1876 and later organized in 1907. It is named for Henderson King Yoakum, a Texas historian. Until the passage of a liquor sales referendum held on May 11, 2013, Yoakum had been one of 19 remaining prohibition or entirely dry counties within Texas.
