History Of Berliner FC Dynamo (1989–2004)
The 1989–90 season was tumultuous for BFC Dynamo. The East German regime faltered and parts of the Berlin Wall were opened on 9 November 1989. Forward Andreas Thom became the first player in the DDR-Oberliga to leave for the West Germany, West German Bundesliga. The dismantling of the champion team from the 1980s was now well underway. The Stasi was dissolved and the club thus lost a major sponsor. The East German Ministry of the Interior declared that it was only prepared to support the club until the end of the 1989–90 season. The club changed its name to FC Berlin on 19 February 1990, in an attempt to distance the club from the Stasi. The number of spectators dropped drastically. FC Berlin finished the 1989-90 DDR-Oberliga in fourth place and failed for the first time to qualify for a UEFA competitions, European competition. BFC Dynamo
Berliner Fussball Club Dynamo e. V., commonly abbreviated to BFC Dynamo () or BFC (), alternatively sometimes called Dynamo Berlin, is a German football club based in the locality of Alt-Hohenschönhausen of the borough of Lichtenberg of Berlin. The team competes in the Regionalliga Nordost, the fourth tier of German football. BFC Dynamo was founded in East Germany in 1966 from the football department of sports club SC Dynamo Berlin. BFC Dynamo established itself as a top-team in the DDR-Oberliga in the mid-1970s. Supported by extensive youth work, BFC Dynamo eventually became one of the most successful clubs in East German football. BFC Dynamo is the record champion in East Germany, with ten consecutive league championships from 1979 through 1988, under coach Jürgen Bogs. Burkhard Reich
Burkhard Reich (born 1 December 1964) is a German former professional footballer who played as a defender. He is currently the athletic director for Karlsruher SC II. Reich began to play football for SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde and joined the youth academy of BFC Dynamo at 12-years-old in 1977. He then returned to SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde when he was 17 years old. He made his professional debut for SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde in the DDR-Liga in 1981. The coach of BFC Dynamo Jürgen Bogs was so impressed by Reich after a friendly match between SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde and BFC Dynamo that he decided to bring him back to BFC Dynamo during the 1985–86 season. Reich scored his first goal in the DDR-Oberliga in the derby against 1. FC Union Berlin at the Stadion der Weltjugend on 13 September 1986. BFC Dynamo won the match with a massive 8-1. FC Carl Zeiss Jena
FC Carl Zeiss Jena () is a German football club based in Jena, Thuringia. Founded in 1903, it was initially associated with the optics manufacturer Carl Zeiss. From the 1960s to the 1980s it was one of the top-ranked clubs in East Germany, won the DDR-Oberliga and the FDGB-Pokal three times each and reached the 1981 European Cup Winners' Cup Final. A (, plural ) is a regional league in numerous Sports governing body, sports governing bodies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, usually located in the upper or middle tiers of the sports leagues. BSV Stahl Brandenburg
BSG Stahl Brandenburg is a German association football club based in Brandenburg an der Havel, Brandenburg. History The club was formed in 1950 as ''BSG Einheit Brandenburg'' and played its earliest seasons in the II division of East German football. They took on the name ''BSG Stahl Brandenburg'' in 1955 to reflect the backing of the local steel company. With that support, the club was able to assemble competitive sides by offering attractive salaries to the castoffs of other teams. The strategy drew some capable players to their ranks and helped them develop a solid fan base. The side earned promotion to the DDR-Oberliga for the 1984–85 season and played there until German reunification in 1990. Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl
Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl was a German association football club based in Eisenhüttenstadt in Brandenburg. The club dissolved in 2016 and merged into FC Eisenhüttenstadt. FC Eisenhüttenstadt plays in the sixth tier Brandenburg-Liga as of the 2021–22 season. History The predecessor of Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl was founded as enterprise sports community BSG Stahl Fürstenberg Ost in Fürtstenberg in Bezirk Frankfurt in 1950. The football team was admitted to the new third tier Bezirksliga Frankfurt an der Oder in 1952. The community of Stalinstadt was built nearby for the workers of the local ironworks, and so the team was known as BSG Stahl Stalinstadt from 1953. Fürstenberg, Stalinstadt and the village of Schönfließ were merged to form Eisenhüttenstadt in late 1961. The sports community was thus renamed BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt. Tennis Borussia Berlin
Tennis Borussia Berlin is a German football club based in the locality of Westend in Berlin. History The team was founded in 1902 as ''Berliner Tennis- und Ping-Pong-Gesellschaft Borussia'' taking its name from its origins as a tennis and table tennis club. Borussia is a Latinised version of Prussia and was a widely used name for sports clubs in the former state of Prussia. Jörn Lenz
Jörn Lenz (born 12 April 1969) is a German former professional association football, footballer who played as a defender. Lenz had four different spells with BFC Dynamo during his professional playing career and has continued to serve as part of the club's backroom staff since retiring in 2008. Lenz played a total of 374 matches for BFC Dynamo between 1988 and 2008. He made two appearances for BFC Dynamo in the 1989-90 European Cup Winners' Cup. Christian Backs
Christian Backs (born 26 August 1962) is a German former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Backs came through the youth academy of BFC Dynamo and played professionally for BFC Dynamo (later named FC Berlin) for 12 seasons, winning eight East German titles and two cups in the 1980s. International career During this time he won nine caps for East Germany, scoring once. He was also involved in the East German Olympic team who qualified for the 1984 Olympics, but was forced to stay at home, because of the East Germans' boycott of the tournament. Coaching career After reunification, Backs wound down his career with Reinickendorfer Füchse, where he played from 1992 to 1997. He took over as manager of the 'Foxes' in 2000, where he remained until 2004 when he took the reins at his old club Dynamo.
