Hiroo, Hokkaido
is a town located in Tokachi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. As of September 2016, the town has an estimated population of 7,182 and a density of 12 persons per km2. The total area is 596.14 km2. Hiroo is recognized as the only place in Japan to be designated as a "Santa-Land" from the municipal government of Oslo, Norway. Taiki, Hokkaido
is a town located in Tokachi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. Etymology The name of the town comes from the Ainu word for "place where many trees grow." History Japanese prospectors began searching for gold in Taiki in the 1630s. Tadataka Ino surveyed the surrounding area in 1800, and Takeshiro Matsuura led an exploratory expedition in 1858. Taiki was initially organized as a county within the newly created prefecture of Hokkaido in August 1869. Taiki Village was created in October 1928 and elevated to town status in April 1951. is a List of towns in Japan, town located in Tokachi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. On February 6, 2006, the village of Chūrui, Hokkaido, Chūrui (from Hiroo District, Hokkaido, Hiroo District) was merged into Makubetsu. Makubetsu is the birthplace of park golf, and as of 2006, has no less than ten individual courses. Mascots Makubetsu's mascot is is a blue elephant. He is one of the descendants of Naumann's elephants. His charm points are his trunks, his big ears, his long tusks and his lovely eyes.
