Hipódromo Camarero
Hipódromo Camarero (formerly known as El Nuevo Comandante) is a horse racing building located in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico, to the east of San Juan, Puerto Rico, San Juan and Carolina, Puerto Rico, Carolina. It is about a fifteen-minute drive from Carolina's Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, and 25 minutes east from the Isla Verde hotel area. The new administration of Camarero Race Track Corporation start operations on January 5, 2007. El Nuevo Comandante was built in 1976, and opened on October 31, 1976, to substitute the original "El Comandante" building, which had been located in Carolina, from January 1957 to mid October 1976. It has become arguably the most important horse racing complex in the island, holding horse races every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. John Velazquez
John R. Velazquez (born November 24, 1971) is a Puerto Rican jockey in Thoroughbred horse race, Thoroughbred horse racing. He began his career in Puerto Rico and moved to New York in 1990. In 2004 and 2005 he was the United States Champion Jockey by earnings and both years was given the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2012, rode his 5,000th winner in 2013, and became the leading money-earning jockey in the history of the sport in 2014. Camarero
Camarero (June 16, 1951–August 27, 1956) was a Thoroughbred racehorse that was raised and raced in Puerto Rico. He was the winner of 73 races, including the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing in Puerto Rico. Camarero is notable for setting the current world record of the most consecutive wins for a Thoroughbred racehorse at 56 in a series of races between April 1953 and August 1955. Background Cameraro was sired by Thirteen who was a son of 1938 Travers Stakes winner Thanksgiving. His name translates to "waiter" in Spanish. Bold Forbes (March 31, 1973 – August 9, 2000) was a champion thoroughbred racehorse, winner of the 1976 Kentucky Derby and 1976 Belmont Stakes. Luis Hiraldo
Luis Hiraldo Carrasquillo (1992 – 20 July 2023) was a Puerto Rican horse racing jockey. A winner of 14 horse racing classics, he won 1,118 out of the 6,506 races in which he participated. Career Hiraldo debuted in 2010. He won 177 races in Puerto Rico that year, having participated in 958, to become the top rookie in that country for that year and the second-winningest jockey there in 2010, behind Juan Carlos Diaz. In 2013, Hiraldo participated in the Clasico del Caribe horse racing classic in Panama City, Panama, riding a horse named "Son de Goma".
