Hindsburg, New York
Hindsburg is a hamlet in the town of Murray in Orleans County, New York, United States. It is named after Jacob Hinds, a native of Arlington in Bennington County, Vermont. Hinds settled in Murray ''circa'' 1829 and purchased a farm from Jared Luttenton, who had previously constructed a dwelling on the lot. The area quickly became a point of shipping for wheat and produce by way of the Erie Canal and a warehouse was constructed by Hinds in 1830. Murray is a town in Orleans County, New York, United States. The population was 6,259 at the 2000 census. The Town of Murray is on the east border of the county, northwest of the City of Rochester. History Murray was first settled . The Town of Murray was established in 1808 from the town of Northampton before the formation of Orleans County, while still part of Genesee County. Orleans County is a county in the western part of the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,343. The county seat is Albion. The county received its name at the insistence of Nehemiah Ingersoll though historians are unsure how the name was selected. The two competing theories are that it was named to honor the French Royal House of Orleans or that it was to honor Andrew Jackson's victory in New Orleans. The county is part of the Finger Lakes region of the state. Arlington, Vermont
Arlington is a town in Bennington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 2,457 at the 2020 census. History The town of Arlington was chartered July 28, 1761, by New Hampshire Governor Benning Wentworth, as part of the New Hampshire Grants. In 1777, Arlington became the first capital of the Vermont Republic. Among the first settlers in Arlington were Captain Jehiel Hawley and his family, who had settled there by 1764. They were Anglicans and had fled Roxbury, Connecticut, because of the oppressive requirements of the established Congregational church. The Erie Canal is a historic canal in upstate New York that runs east–west between the Hudson River and Lake Erie. Albion is a village in Orleans County, New York, United States. The population was 5,637 as of the 2020 census, down 419 from the 2010 census. The village is centrally located in the county, and is partly within the towns of both Albion and Gaines. It is the county seat of Orleans County and is about west/northwest of Rochester. Albion is part of the Rochester metropolitan area. History The Albion area was first settled by European Americans in 1812. This area attracted few residents before the announcement, near the end of the decade, that the Erie Canal would be constructed through here. Hulberton, New York
Hulberton is a hamlet in the town of Murray in Orleans County, New York, United States. It is named after Isaac Henry Scott Hulbert, a native of Pittsfield in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Arriving first at Sandy Creek in 1824, Hulbert soon relocated the following year to the nearby hamlet of Scio. The location prospered along the Erie Canal where Hulbert engaged in the produce business. On March 6, 1830 he was selected at chairman of the building committee for the Methodist Episcopal Church and was a long-time Justice of the Peace. When the community determined the need for a local post office, the nearest being located at the hamlet of Sandy Creek, Hulbert was appointed to the position of post master. This post office was established in 1835. Kendall, New York
Kendall is a town in Orleans County, just west of the town of Hamlin in Monroe County, in New York State, United States. The population of Kendall was 2,724 at the 2010 census. The Town of Kendall is in the northeast corner of Orleans County and is northwest of Rochester. History The town was part of the Connecticut Tract, also called the 100,000 Acre Tract.
