Hillview, Singapore
Hillview is a subzone located in upper Bukit Timah in Singapore. The neighbourhood overlooks Bukit Timah Hill, hence its name. Ecology Hillview is set amongst greenery encircled by the woodlands of Gombak, Bukit Batok, Bukit Gombak to the west, Bukit Batok Nature Park to the south and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to the east. Near it are several other nature parks, such as Hindhede Nature Park, Dairy Farm Nature Park, Chestnut Nature Park, and Rifle Range Nature Park. History Industrial Past From the early 1940s to the late 80s, Hillview was an industrial precinct with factories such as the Old Ford Motor Factory (built in 1941), Castrol Oil Company, Union Carbide, Cycle & Carriage Daimler-Benz car assembly plant (built in 1965) and Hume Pipe Company factory (lease in Hume Avenue granted in 1927). Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) (; Jawi: ) or colloquially referred to simply as KTM, is the main rail operator in Peninsular Malaysia. Hillview MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Downtown MRT line, Downtown Line, situated on the boundaries of Hillview and Nature Reserve planning subzones of Bukit Batok and Bukit Panjang respectively, Singapore. The station serves the Upper Bukit Timah corridor, at the junction between Upper Bukit Timah Road, Dairy Farm Road and Hillview Road. It is in close proximity to the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Selective En Bloc Redevelopment Scheme
The Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme, or SERS for short, is an urban redevelopment strategy employed by the Housing and Development Board in Singapore in maintaining and upgrading public housing flats in older estates in the city-state. Launched in August 1995, it involves a small selection of specific flats in older estates which undergo demolition and redevelopment to optimise land use, as opposed to upgrading of existing flats via the Main Upgrading and Interim Upgrading Programmes. To date82 SERS siteshave been announced, of which 77 were completed. The implementation of SERS also depends on the availability of replacement sites and the Government's financial resources. Bukit Gombak
Bukit Gombak is a subzone of Bukit Batok, Singapore. It is a hilly neighbourhood in the west-central area of the Southeast Asian city-state of Singapore. In the Malay language, ''bukit'' means hill and ''gombak'' a bunch or collection of something. The neighbourhood consists of two hills. One of them stands at 133m while the other stands at 113m. They are Singapore's second and third highest natural point after Bukit Timah Hill.
