Ambia, Indiana
Ambia is a town in Hickory Grove Township, Benton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 239 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lafayette, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Ambia was laid out by Ezekiel M. Talbot and his wife Marietta on February 22, 1875, and named for their daughter Ambia Talbot. (The couple had two years earlier planned the nearby town of Talbot.) Its first building was a house erected by James C. Pugh which was soon joined by a grain elevator, general store and blacksmith. A drug store, hardware store, hotel, physician and a variety of other establishments followed. Ambia was a stop on the Lafayette, Muncie and Bloomington Railroad (later the Lake Erie and Western) which ran between Lafayette and Hoopeston. State Road 71 (SR 71) is a north–south discontinuous state road in the west-central Indiana part of the US state of Indiana. The southern segment is completely within Vermillion County, while the northern segment is in Benton and Newton counties. The highway passes through mostly rural areas. The southern end of the southern segment is in Blanford at SR 163 before ending at SR 63 near Newport. The northern segment begins at an intersection with SR 352 near Ambia and heads north passing through the community of Raub before ending at U.S. Highway 24/ U.S. Highway 52 (US 24/US 52). Prairie Township is one of twelve townships in Warren County, Indiana, United States. According to the 2010 census, its population was 257 and it contained 117 housing units; the population density is the lowest of any township in the county, at . History Prairie Township was formed in 1864 out of a portion of Pine Township. Geography According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of , all land. It is almost entirely agricultural and contains a single town, Tab. Two other small communities in the eastern part of the township, Locust Grove and Walnut Grove, dwindled away during the 20th century and are now extinct. Parish Grove Township, Benton County, Indiana
Parish Grove Township is one of eleven townships in Benton County, Indiana. As of the 2020 census, its population was 185 and it contained 89 housing units. It contains the unincorporated town of Freeland Park. History Parish Grove Township was one of the county's original three created in 1840. The grove for which it is named grew close to the township's southeastern corner, near what is now the intersection of county roads 400 West and 300 South. It originally covered about and contained an abundant variety of trees, including oaks, walnuts, hickory, dogwood, haw, paw paw, sycamore, quaking ash, ironwood, water beach, elm, linn, poplar, ash, sassafras, locust, etc. As late as 1924 there were 37 varieties growing in the grove. Parish Grove was home to a group of local Pottawatomie Indians led by Chief Parish (real name Pierre Moran), the son of French trader Constant Moran and a Kickapoo woman. Talbot is an unincorporated community in Hickory Grove Township, Benton County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is part of the Lafayette, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The town of Talbot was laid out by Ezekiel M. Talbot (chief engineer of the LM&B Railroad) and his wife Marietta on February 18, 1873, the plat consisting of 71 lots. The couple would also lay out the nearby town of Ambia two years later. In the 1920s, Talbot had a population of about 200, plus a Methodist church, grain elevator, grade school and eight to ten businesses. A post office was established at Talbot in 1873, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1995.
