Hermética
Hermética was an Argentine thrash metal band from San Martín, Buenos Aires. It was formed by bassist Ricardo Iorio in 1987 after his previous band, V8, disbanded. Hermética was signed to the independent record label Radio Trípoli Discos throughout their career. The band's initial lineup consisted of Iorio, vocalist Claudio O'Connor, drummer Fabián Spataro and guitarist Antonio Romano. Spataro left the band in 1988 and was replaced by Antonio Scotto. This lineup recorded their eponymous album, the first thrash metal album recorded in Argentina. At this point of their career, Hermética performed mainly in Argentina, except for one concert held in Uruguay. In 1990, they released '' Intérpretes''an extended play which included covers of Argentine rock and tango songs. Hermética (album)
''Hermética'' is the self-titled debut studio album by Argentine thrash metal band Hermética. Following failed negotiations with EMI, Hermética signed with the independent label Radio Trípoli. The band recorded the album at Estudios Sonovisión and released it in November 1989. The cover art, created by Franco Médici under band leader Ricardo Iorio's direction, features symbolic imagery representing Argentine society. Aiming to replicate the international success of Brazil's Sepultura, Radio Trípoli attempted to translate Hermética's songs into English, but abandoned the idea after a testing recording. Background V8, one of the leading bands of Argentine heavy metal, disbanded in 1987. Ricardo Horacio Iorio (25 June 1962 – 24 October 2023) was an Argentine Heavy metal music, heavy metal singer and bassist. Iorio was one of the founders of V8 (band), V8 (1979–1987) and later founded the band Hermética (1988–1994). He was the singer and main composer for Almafuerte (band), Almafuerte from 1995 until its dissolution in 2016. His songs were urban stories dealing with the life of the lower classes, as well as Argentine 'Heavy metal subculture, metalheads'. Even though he played bass with every band he formed, he chose Beto Ceriotti to be the new bassist of Almafuerte, remaining as the singer and main lyricist of the band. ''Víctimas del Vaciamiento'' (, ) is the third and last studio album of Argentine thrash metal band Hermética, released in 1994 by . It was certified gold, and the band broke up a few months after promoting the album at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias, an arena in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Background Hermética's first drummer, Tony Scotto, left the band in 1991 and was replaced by Claudio Strunz, right before they recorded '' Ácido Argentino''. The album was certified gold by the Argentine Chamber of Phonograms and Videograms Producers (CAPIF) for its sales in Argentina. The label, Radio Tripoli, proposed them to make the new album in a studio of Miami or Los Angeles. The leader Ricardo Iorio rejected the proposal, preferring to stay in the country. Claudio Alberto Castro, also known as Claudio O'Connor (born April 28, 1963 in Llavallol, Buenos Aires Province) is a thrash metal, groove metal and hard rock vocalist from Argentina. Nowadays he's lead singer of his own band O'Connor and Malón. He was also formerly the lead singer of Hermética. Biography Mark I Claudio O'Connor started in the music in 1984. He was recommended by Walter Almada, ''Horse Power'' bassist. When O'Connor joins the band as vocalist, it's renamed to Mark I. The band performed over 30 shows until its dissolution in 1987. They recorded two demos, one with two tracks ("Una Farsa Más" and "Traidor") and other with 4 ("El traidor", "(Esto es) Mark", "Tierra marginal" y "Las tablas de la ley"). ''Intérpretes'' is an E.P. released in 1990 by heavy metal band Hermética. It is an album of covers, including songs from artists like Motörhead, V8 and Manal, among others. Production ''Intérpretes'' is the second work produced by Hermética after the 1989 ''Hermética'' album. At that point, the label Trípoli Discos could provide only 27 hours of recording time. The band accepted the proposal. Lacking new songs, the band recorded a cover album. Bassist Ricardo Iorio commented that they were not really interested in receiving royalties and thus had no problems in recording covers. One of the songs is a thrash metal version of the tango '' Cambalache''. Iorio commented that the lyrics of the song, written in the 1930s, were still evident and close to the lyrics of Hermética. He also played the song as an homage to Enrique Santos Discépolo, a tango artist who influenced him, and pointed out that the song is well known in neighbouring countries. ''Ácido Argentino'' is the second studio album by Argentine thrash metal band Hermética, released in 1991 by Trípoli Discos. It is the first album with the drummer Claudio Strunz. The songs were written by Ricardo Iorio and Antonio Romano, and the lyrics by Iorio. It was recorded in 500 hours, and was certified platinum within a few months of its release. Background and recording As of 1991, Hermética was growing in popularity. They ceased to make concerts at Arlequines, as the pub was too small for their growing audience, and moved to Cemento, a nightclub that was moving away from its origins in disco music and hosting rock concerts instead. Antonio Romano (musician)
Antonio Romano (born August 6, 1962) is an Argentine thrash metal guitarist. He has worked in Cerbero, Hermética, Malón, Visceral and Razones Concientes. Biography Born in Caseros, Buenos Aires, son of Italian immigrants, Romano became a heavy metal musician after hearing an LP of Black Sabbath. He began his work in the 1980s, in a black metal band named "Cerbero". The band did not record any LP. He was considered a possible guitarist for V8 when Osvaldo Civile left that band, but he was not selected. Still, when V8's bassist Ricardo Iorio broke up the band in 1989, he hired Romano for his new band, Hermética, along with singer Claudio O'Connor and drummer Fabián Spataro. Romano composed the music of several songs of the new band. Claudio Strunz (born November 11, 1966) is an Argentine thrash metal drummer. He has worked in Heinkel, Hermética, Malón and Simbiosis. Biography Claudio Strunz, born in La Tablada, began his career in Heinkel, a band that would be renamed Jeriko. The band's rehearsal room was located in the Belgrano neighbourhood, which was very distant, so he created a new one at his home. El Reloj hired this rehearsal room as well. He created later a new one in Mataderos, which was hired by the thrash metal band Hermética. He played with that band during tests when the drummer Tony Scotto was absent. As a result, when Scotto left the band Strunz was selected as the new drummer. V8 was an Argentine heavy metal band formed in 1979, one of the first notable Argentine and Latin America bands of that genre. After its dissolution former members have continued their careers starting other heavy metal bands, Hermética, Horcas, Rata Blanca, Logos and Almafuerte.
