Herbert Potts
Herbert Alfred Potts (30 January 1878 – before 1939) was an English footballer who played for Belgian clubs Antwerp and Beerschot AC between 1898 and 1905. Club career Herbert Potts and his older brother Walter were strikers for Antwerp FC at the end of the 19th century, making his debut against FC Liégeois on 30 October 1898, which ended in a 2–4 loss. In the 1899–1900 Belgian First Division, they narrowly missed out on reaching the national final after losing a tie-breaker playoff to Racing de Bruxelles 0–1. Following this, the majority of the players and the Potts brothers left the club to join the newly founded Beerschot AC under the chairmanship of Max Elsen and later in the season Paul Havenith. He was named the captain of the football team, and started in the club's first official match on 21 October 1900, which ended in a 10–2 victory over FC Brugeois. Sheerness
Sheerness () is a port town and civil parish beside the mouth of the River Medway on the north-west corner of the Isle of Sheppey in north Kent, England. With a population of 13,249, it is the second largest town on the island after the nearby town of Minster, Swale, Minster which has a population of 16,738. Sheerness began as a fort built in the 16th century to protect the River Medway from naval invasion. In 1665 plans were first laid by the Navy Board for Sheerness Dockyard, a facility where warships might be provisioned and repaired. The site was favoured by Samuel Pepys, then Clerk of the Acts of the navy, for shipbuilding over Chatham, Medway, Chatham inland. 1901 Coupe Vanden Abeele
The 1901 Coupe Vanden Abeele (English: Vanden Abeele Cup) was a friendly football match held at the ground of Beerschot A.C. in Antwerp, on 28 April 1901. That match was contested by representative teams of Belgium and the Netherlands, and ended in a 8–0 win to the Belgians, but more important than the result was its historical significance, as it was the first international football match played in continental Europe, official or otherwise. The cup was named in honor of the donator of the trophy, Frédéric Vanden Abeele, the Antwerp football director, who organized this match after the huge success of the first edition of the Coupe Van der Straeten Ponthoz in 1900. Due to schedule issues, the Dutch side was ultimately mostly formed by players from a third-level Rotterdam club, Celeritas, at the initiative of its captain, J.C.
